ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In 2014, Monarch Trail released the album "Skye" which was well received and continues to sell all over the world. At that time keyboardist/vocalist/writer Ken Baird had asked his friends Chris Lamont (drums) and Dino Verginella (bass) to join him on this collaborative project. They also added three guitarists to play on their respective tracks, John Mamone, Kelly Kereliuk and Steve Cochrane.

The idea was that the compositions and songs would be as free as possible to go in whatever direction seemed natural.

The "Skye" album did well enough that a follow-up album was planned and now, here it is three years later, the new album "Sand"! All the same musicians appear from "Skye", as well as cover and "gatefold" artwork by Annette Roche.

Another Excellent Offering
Ken Baird, Dino Verginella and Chris Lamont have done it again, with their second release "Sand". An epic album of symphonic prog that will be right at home in your collection with IQ or Genesis but with enough of its own unique sounds and structures to stand out. This is an album that, while giving a healthy nod to the influences of the past, steps up and gives us progressive rock for a modern world..
As with their debut, guest appearances by guitarists John Mamone, Kelly Kereliuk and Steve Cochrane add some extra punch, but the strength of this disc lies in the interplay between the trio. Best tracks are "Missing" and the epic tit;e track "Sand" which will leave you breathless....
Possibly the best release of 2017! Definitely recommended!

Monarch Trail - Sand
“Sand “ is the sophomore album released by Canadian progressive keyboardist Ken Baird and his band. Billed under the name Monarch Trail, “Sand” is a strong follow up album to 2014’s superb “Skye” debut release.
“Sand” pretty much picks up where “Skye” ended , offering another clever suite of seven symphonic progressive tracks with a few new twists. Musically Baird takes Monarch Trail here into the Cosmos delivering an album with a strong alignment to the stars and the vastness of space.
Track 5 “Charlie’s Kitchen” (the biggest departure musically on the album) shows Bairds’ continued journey of creative song with this angular lounge -jazz infused song that busts wide open with the back half in full symphonic mode. “Sand” feels fresh and creative while once again showcasing the talents of his band complimented by his signature arsenal of keyboards and ivory samples.
Watermark songs include “Missing” (Track 4) and title Track “Sand” (Track 7)
A wonderful symphonic rock album that carries its own originality.....not to be missed !
