ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Continental Village...what the heck does that mean? Well, I grew up in a place called Continental Village, in New York State. It was a quiet little nook, with a lake to fish and swim in, endless dirt roads for sledding and riding bikes, very kid-friendly. When I was 12, I discovered folk music, and I just went nuts. I began a life-long journey of discovering songs from all over North America, so I was also growing up in a musical continental village as well. And that’s what I’m celebrating here.

I’ve been performing for over 40 years, and the songs on this CD are some of my closest friends. They’re stylistically extremely diverse, I guess because I get bored easily. I could never settle down to one genre and call it my own. There’s just too much good stuff out there. So the unifying theme here is just my taste. There are cowboy songs, ballads, a few originals, Calypso, Bob Dylan, and a large share of popular tunes I learned from my Dad. It’s just who I am musically. Lots of good friends helped me out, and they make this much more fun for me, and for you too, I hope.

I'm also a member of Mom's Home Cookin', and we have 2 albums available here at CD Baby: Give Me the Roses, and Pot Luck. We play old-timey and traditional folk, and you might want to check us out too.

Thanks so much for taking a look!

Continential village
Ms. Grabin's voice is lovely, her timing perfect, her choice of songs geared to her wide range. What a bonus to have a few songs she's written herself - a perfect Christmas gift for any folk-lover

Monica’s sheer delight in sharing her music comes pouring out of this CD. This is like being invited to breakfast and expecting a bowl of oatmeal but receiving instead a smorgasbord of home baked treats, breads, fruit salads and scrumptious old favorites, cleverly and differently prepared by a master chef. (The baked pineapple served by the ukulele lady is my favorite!) This is way more than a continental breakfast, it’s a luxurious brunch to be savored to the last crum.
