Album Notes
Joe Romano and Susan Elliott have long been beloved by Houston audiences for their unique renderings of classic, contemporary and Latin jazz tunes and beautiful harmonies. Their first independent recording, "Oh Solo Duo!" features fourteen original arrangements of songs by such diverse composers as Duke Ellington, Dave Frishberg, Al Jarreau, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

"Great singing and playing. Great Brazilian feel. Every track on this record stands by itself with its own sound." -- Dave Frishberg, Pianist, Composer, Lyricist

"Susan Elliott and Joe Romano are Mood indigo, a fantastic duo singing and playing some of the greatest tunes in American music with grace, proficiency and talent galore. Catch 'em live or enjoy their CD, Oh, Solo Duo!, ASAP. They are wonderful." -- Ray Benson, Asleep at the Wheel

Mood Indigo Reimagines Some American Classics
Say you're on a first date with someone intelligent, someone sporting a bit of class and sophistication, and you both go back to your place. You want to make a good impression. You need a smart musical choice - quick! - something that shows you march to your own drumbeat, rather than move with the crowd. Same-oh same-oh won't work here; you want that first date to lead to others. Here's an easy answer: simply choose Oh, Solo Duo!, a superb album of classic American songs by much beloved Houston, Texas duo Mood Indigo. You'll stand out from the crowd, and you'll score points even before the game begins.

Mood Indigo consists of Joe Romano on vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica, and Susan Elliott on vocals and percussion. These multi-talented performers show what comes of honing one's craft for years in live shows from Texas to California to New York State, stopping along the way for performances on Prairie Home Companion and for the birthday of a former president.

Oh, Solo Duo! showcases Mood Indigo's unique and very appealing take on songs by greats such as Gershwin, Jarreau and Ellington. The artists never get in the way of the songs, but their arrangements, aided by a touch of Latin feel and a smidgeon or two of playfulness - complements of the theatrical experience lurking in the backgrounds of both singers - adds greatly to the album's appeal.

Our singers kick things off with a lively Better Than Anything that demonstrates their vocal dexterity and years of working together. Check out the somewhat wistful Squeeze Me, featuring some great two-part harmony, and Mr. Romano's superb harmonica work to get things going. Miss Elliott's gorgeous voice results in a dreamily elegant rendition of In a Sentimental Mood that really works, sounding like it was recorded for another era. Try to resist grinning on the engaging My Attorney, Bernie. The vocal acrobatics on One Note Samba again show their experience and comfort in working together. Could You Believe reveals some folksy/gospel-type vocals that sound like Miss Elliott was plucked from the choir of a church in the South. What versatility! The engaging, emotive vocals and top-drawer instrumentation throughout are aided by a very clean, well-engineered recording, resulting in one arresting song after another.

You may have heard many of these songs before, but you likely haven't heard them done quite like this. And chances are, once you do, you'll be hooked - on timeless songs...and on Mood Indigo. Enjoy that second date.
