Album Notes
Moon Pool

Moon Pool is a fascinating collective of four musicians with a unified goal: to spontaneously create music that reflects the turbulence, immediacy and urgency of our times. Moon Pool has a funky, rhythmic, turn-on-a-dime quality. Fearless and intrepid, this band seeks to go outside the norm, to walk on a razor’s edge, to swing without a net. With each member understanding his role in this creation, the band instinctively harnesses various musical elements to create an improvised composition. Rambunctious wailing, unabashedly beautiful melodies, waves of sound and infectious grooves are part of this band’s musical palette.
The stage is Moon Pool’s canvas. Each musician contributes melodies, rhythms and textures to paint a sound landscape.

Eric Person – saxophones/flute – the magician of melody

Eric Person is a conjurer with a Zen-loose mastery of the saxophone. Born in St. Louis Missouri, Person's been active on the New York/International music scene since 1982. He has seven CD's as a leader, and leads two progressive bands Meta-Four and Metamorphosis. Person has collaborated with many of the greats in jazz, funk, rock and modern creative music, like McCoy Tyner, Dave Holland, John Hicks, Chico Hamilton and Vernon Reid , Ben Harper and Bootsy Collins.

Marc Puricelli – piano – tonal visionary

Detroit-born Marc Puricelli is a first class composer and arranger who is at home in many styles of performance. Puricelli’s approach to the piano is orchestral, his resources are global, his goal is to make music at a new level. He’s performed and recorded with Chet Baker, Steve Swallow, Sonny Fortune, Mike Clark, and The JB Horns.

Gene Torres - electric bass – alchemist of the deep

Gene has performed with artists as widely diversified as Public Enemy, Narada Michael Walden and Yusef Lateef. A graduate of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music he’s comfortable playing anything from be-bop to hip-hop. He’s also played with George Benson, Roy Hargrove & Billy Hart.

Jim Payne – drums – wizard of the undercurrent

Founder of the avant-funk band Slickaphonics with Ray Anderson and Mark Helias. He’s produced CDs for Medeski, Martin & Wood and drummer Mike Clark. Jim has toured North America with his own band, HOP and authored “Give The Drummers Some!” and “Drumming With the Mambo King,” (co-authored with the late Tito Puente). He’s performed and recorded with Maceo Parker, The JB Horns & Fred Wesley.
