ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Moral DK is an alternative rock band based out of Southern California. The band started as a recording project lead by songwriter and guitarist Gym Nicholson formerly of the band Undercover. Moral DK’s debut album, Cold in August, is a cathartic purge revolving around Nicholson’s experience of personal adversity and misfortune. Songs deal with a plethora of emotions that consume during stages of loss and broken ideals. The title track, Cold in August, reflects the better times and what once was, “There was a time, not so long ago, there was a time." Although common themes of grief and despair can be heard throughout the album, Nicholson also writes with a vulnerability, strength and grace informing the listener that with time, things will get better. Sonically, the album mirrors the themes of life's unpredictable hand with its over driven guitars, moody, mystical keys, ranging rhythms and dynamic vocals all helping to convey Nicholson's story. Eclectic and diverse, the albums tempered spirits keep the listener engaged and pleasantly surprised. Stand out tracks on the album include “Lonely," “Anybody Could Have Loved Somebody,” and “Sigh.” Nicholson teams up with a cast of experienced musicians and friends on the album that include, Joe “Ojo” Taylor (formerly of Undercover) on keyboards, Ric Alba (formerly of The Altar Boys) on bass and vocals, Gary Olson (formerly of Undercover) on drums and vocals, and Rob Gallas (formerly of Undercover and Black and White World) and Sim Wilson (formerly of Undercover) sharing lead vocal duties. Joe Taylor also produced and engineered the album along with Michael Pritzl (The Violet Burning) co-producing and mixing all the songs. Moral DK’s current line up consists of Gym Nicholson on guitar and vocals, Ric Alba on bass and vocals, Rob Gallas on lead vocals, Gary Olson on drums and vocals and Jeff Sheets on keyboards. The band is currently writing and recording its sophomore effort in hopes for a late 2020 release. Keep your eyes and ears open for this fresh, original, and seasoned band as it continues to hit the airwaves and bring its high energy performance to the stage.
