ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Biography

Powerful and haunting doesn’t even begin to describe the soulful lyrical ballads of Morgan McPherson, a local artist from Greensboro, North Carolina. From the late-teenage angst and anger-driven 'Healed' of Morgan's first full length album (Stranger in the Mirror), to the bold, crisp, and fresh sound of 'Destiny, Save Me,' to the dark and hauntingly reflective 'Where Dark & Light Converge', Morgan has been busy as a creatrix of musical moods that transport your psyche through time and space.... or to the not-so-glorious past. On April 1, 2017, the long-awaited 'Burn', (McPherson's 5th studio project) was released. This project features Morgan at the height of her musical career with 11 new original songs and is considered her best work to date.

Morgan, thirty-three, began playing the organ at age three. She was trained by her Grandma Virginia by ear. At age five, Morgan began taking lessons and has been studying classical piano for approximately 28 years. Getting her start at the Music Academy of North Carolina, she then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in December '07 with a major in music. While attending school, Morgan released her first EP on November 29, 2007 entitled “Fragile Little Me,” which she produced herself. After graduating from college, she established Silver Chord Records in January '08. Morgan collaborated with Saul Johnson of Underground Sound in Greensboro for the production of “Stranger in the Mirror.” For her first full length studio album, Morgan’s abilities as a singer-songwriter reflect nothing less than an experienced, seasoned composer exhibiting tempered maturity and great depth. This CD, which was 7 years in the making, was a themed album primarily based on personal experience. Every song is like another page in a storybook telling of love, loss, healing and renewal.

Her lyrics are full of hidden metaphors, spiritual references, sexual imagery and a sharp angst. The keyboard is a medium for the expression of the vast emotions, conflicts, and revelations which she shares through her raw lyrics that have an alternative edge with a pop-rock undertone. Although there may be hints of similarities in her music with her major influences, Morgan has a style and voice totally her own that is communicated through her lyrics that challenge your mind and echo through your soul.

In 2010, Morgan released 'Destiny, Save Me,' a double-disc product that includes live video footage from recording in Nashville with executive producer Russ Long. It includes live tracking with bassist Ron May and drummer Strother Bullins and was recorded in Nashville, TN at the House of David.

Her following project, 'Where Dark & Light Converge' (2015) is a dark album focusing on the themes of death, spiritual questioning, the possibility of life after death, and the feeling of hopelessness that sometimes comes from not knowing. The studio time started in late 2010, but it took so long to become a project in physical form due to a serious illness is 2012 that resulted in a 4-month hospitalization, causing almost complete disability and forcing Morgan to re-learn almost everything she had ever written. "It is nothing short of a miracle that I am alive today and even more of a miracle that I have been made even better than I was before," says Morgan now in 2018 as she reflects on what struggles and accomplishments brought her to tackle yet another full length album and releasing both it and another full-length album within the same year (2018). "Producing 'Burn' was certainly a great accomplishment as I feel I finally have something perfect to share with industry professionals. I wrote it for the public and it was really the first project in which I ever seriously thought about my audience and what they would want to hear. I hope it pays off!"

This all leaves us to wonder what Morgan will do next. As we await the release of 'Imaginary Enemies' (expected December 25, 2017), an album recorded by Morgan herself in the comforts of her own home studio, we can expect that the sound will be a bit different from her previous studio releases where she utilized the talents of other producer/engineers. Morgan says of her own experience recording 'Imaginary Enemies':

This project was massive....not so much in the quantity of songs on the
album, but in the short amount of time all the songs were written. All 15
original songs on the album were written during the short span of late
2016 to November 2017. This is very different from all of my other albums,
in which the span of writing occurred during 6 or 7 years of my life. I really
hope you enjoy it.

'Imaginary Enemies' was released on January 27th, 2018 (Morgan's 33rd Birthday). The release was a big success. Morgan has plans to release 2 more projects in the next two years. Please visit 'The Morgan Store' link at the top of the web page to order.
