ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"This jazz minded pop chanteuse, soul sister, cosmopolitan home girl from Jamaica Queens embodies modern-day NY femininity in all its multicultural finess."
-The New York Times

"Somewhere between Sade and Portishead, there's Morley" -Time Magazine

"Morley's brooding; harmonically interesting low-key vibe is one that combines Nina Simone's coy wisdom with Joan Armatrading's vulnerable expressions of emotion." -Tom Moon

"Morley creates modern soul music - cerebral lyrics, sultry
grooves and vocal sophistication." - Elle

"Morley's urban folk is smooth and powerful and proves she knows love is the only way." - Time Out New York
Days Like These is the new album written, arranged, and produced by singer-songwriter Morley, (licensed by Universal Music France for January 2006 release). Co-produced with Ken Rich and multi Grammy®-winning engineer Jay Newland (Norah Jones), Days Like These is a sultry mix of soul, folk, R&B, and otherworldly flavors creating a sumptuous brew that will stimulate your senses and penetrate your soul. Couched in her romantic and angelic voice, her cosmopolitan songs are simultaneously spiritual, sensual, and down-to-earth, with a soulful, international bent.

Reflective of her diverse influences as a poet, dancer, choreographer, and singer, her voice and music are a distinctive hybrid of a range of artists from Roberta Flack to Sade to Annie Lenox to Joni Mitchell, with a sound that is all her own. Sensuality, soul, intellect, and relevance are qualities she shares with these artists, and Morley carries on their legacy of writing and performing music from the heart (and mind) for the heart and mind in a sound that is all her own.

"With no religious connotation, there's a mix of the spiritual and the sensual in my music", muses Morley, "I join them together because I believe them to be from the same source."

Morley was signed to the Sony's Work imprint and released her debut CD, Sun Machine. Equal parts Sade, Maxwell, Crosby, Stills & Nash, "neo-soul", and Curtis Mayfield quiet fire spirit-cosmic, Sun Machine was hailed by pop and adult alternative reviewers alike. Several songs from that album (including "Just Like You", also on the new CD) were placed on TV shows, including the WB's Dawson's Creek & Felicity (episodes & soundtrack CD), and on the soap operas Days of Our Lives, As the World Turns, and General Hospital (she performed three songs live on GH that season).

Morley’s toured with the widely-hailed Lilith Fair and has done opening spots for Neil Finn and the Dave Matthews Band. She has performed for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela in Capetown, South Africa, and at Carnegie Hall with David Amram for Eco-Fest. Morley participated in the Tribute to Joni Mitchell at Symphony Space and sold out the Thalia Theater there. She’s toured Europe in the musical, The Temptations of St. Anthony and sang along side Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon on the soundtrack for the HBO special, Beah Richards, A Black Woman Speaks.
Earlier this year Morley was the recipient of the Abe Olman scholarship for excellence in song writing, representing ASCAP and performed at the 60th anniversary of the UN.

Morley’s new signing to Universal France has resulted in great tours with Amadou et Mariam and Simply Red. In NY she performs at Brooklyn Academy of Music and sold-out shows at NYC's Joe's Pub, one of the finest music venues in the city.

Morley continues to cultivate a loyal and diverse following of fans of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, shapes 'n sizes. The compelling and heartfelt, soul-bearing lyrics interpreted by the stellar musicians, are imbued with a feeling of love, peace, and power. In times like these, the world is ready for Days Like These.

This CD is a real treasure.
I've been enjoying the whole album thoroughly. Every song is excellent. I really like her voice, the music and the lyrics. She's written it all but one which was co-written with another. What a talent! That dance beat (she was a Alvin Ailey dancer) is in many of them along with her superb voice. It's impossible to keep still while listening to it. This CD is a real treasure.

Great CD
The music and lyrics are spiritually moving. It's Sade meets Desree. Cross these Waters screams to anyone who had lost someone(thing). Which is probably everyone.

Wonderful!
Morley is amazing! Her music is soulful, warm, thoughtful, spiritual, sexy, grounded and even fun! And this CD is very much representative of her style. Take a chance and buy it and get two, like I did, because someone is bound to want to borrow it. And if you live in NYC, catch her around the city, you won't be disappointed.

Touches the heart and soul
I first heard Morley this past week at Joe's Pub and was completely overjoyed by her voice...a perfectly-suited vehicle to carry her inspirational lyrics. I've been listening to this CD relentlessly since that performance...riding the New York City subways with Morley as my muse. I highly recommend this CD especially for those who are spiritually thirsty.

Water for the thirsty.
I have patiently waited, and my patience has been rewarded. Days Like These mixes politics, spirituality, sensuality and sexuality into a soundtrack for these days. As a longtime Prince fan, this album supports a similar vibe for me. Hope this is helpful.

Morley is destined for greatness
Having seen Morley live several times over the last few years, I can honestly say her songwriting becomes fuller, richer, deeper, and more lovely with each new effort. 'Day's Like These' continues in her tradition of infusing her personal passion for life, love, and living with an earthy mother-spiritual vibe and is near-intoxicating in live performances. Morley is definitely destined for greatness - catch her while you can, you won't be sorry!
