ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Mosaic Sextet was New York City "cult" ensemble between 1988 and 1990. The group included Dave Douglas and Mark Feldman (their first collaboration), Michael Jefry Stevens - Joe Fonda - Harvey Sorgen (later to form the Fonda/Stevens Group with Herb Robertson) and Michael Rabinowitz on bassoon. The combination of bassoon, trumpet and violin was unique to this sextet, and coupled with the original compositions of mainly Douglas and Stevens - the group created quite a stir over a 3 year period in New York City. All of the musicians in this sextet have gone on to highly creative careers in the last 20 years, but this recording is still quite an impressive and important document for all of these musicians. This is a 2 disc set featuring 16 original compositions!
