Album Notes
The Helensview Motivation Mixtape Volume 1 EP kicks off with Schoolwork, a song about believing in oneself to finish high school. The song was a collaboration, with verses by Helensview School artists Suspect, Gio, and TYSplash, and an original beat by instructor Brian Granse. The song focuses on "making it," and achieving the milestone of earning a high school diploma amid many challenges and barriers.

The EP then moves into "Grace," a TYSplash original. TYSplash raps about family wisdom, and making his way through a world that can be tough. He raps:
"Started from the bottom Grandma had to make her way,
When we didn't have nothing cousin had her Section 8.
Granddad told me as a young'un you gotta lead by your faith,
You might just see other things,
But whatever you do, just maintain.
It don't matter where you been or where you at it's where you going..."

"Grace" gives way to "Tryna Get My Education," a two-minute flow by the album's youngest artist, EZDra. EZDra has a crisp mellow voice that calmly and cooly reminds us all that he's determined to finish his education and make strong choices. He talks about the process of learning, and how it feels to fail before mastering a skill, saying "First time I was wrong, now I'm explaining it..."

The closing track, "Schoolboy Fresh," is a high energy cut by Young Boy Jae, produced by instructor Dontae Riley, telling us that image is, well, kind of everything. Young Boy Jae knows that appearance is the first impression on anyone, and knows that we can believe in ourselves when we believe in how we appear to the world. Young Boy Jae raps about the need to make money and work hard in this world to rise above. He says
"Started from the bottom, headed to the top,
Hundreds on the bottom, twenties on top..."
