Album Notes
Original 2004 Release. Limited Edition. Brand New CD. Released on Los Angeles Indie Label The Moon Pierrot Republic.

Arthur Mountaniol is Los Angeles-based rock musician extraordinaire. An innovative guitarist, composer and singer. A former leader of the Russian legendary avant-garde rock band "The Moon Pierrot" (1986-1992. This artist has a wide array of interests that go far beyond those of a regular rock star. Having a unique vision, great music experience and erudition, he creates his music without any boundaries and fear of being misunderstood.

His album “Shamania” is a phenomenon of a modern underground rock. It was inspired by the World's Shamanic music that is said to induce visions in audiences, separate a spirit from a body and send it to the upper World for an enlightenment (known as a soulflying), and also for its healing effect achieved through a music performance and dancing that scare evil out of a sick person.

Arthur Mountaniol has been interested in this phenomenon since 1991, when he still lived in Moscow (Russia). In 2000, already in Los Angeles, he started creating the music for this album. He's learned how to sing an Asian throat-singing - a vocal technique used by Tuva singers and Tibetan Monks, and by combining it with elements of hard rock, psychedelic, progressive and World music, he's achieved an unprecedented sound that has never been produced by any rock artist before. As a matter of fact, this album still remains a one-of-a-kind.

Unprecedentedly Unique!
I guess Arthur Mountaniol has established an undeniable precedent of being a truly original artist who lonely and proudly stands out of the crowd of today's copycat rock scene. What he's doing with his voice is just unbelievable!

This is the music like you've never heard before.
Arthur Mountaniol's work has been called shaman rock. No matter what you call it, Mountaniol's work is unique. He plays all the instruments on this CD. It has a base of rock electric guitar, bass, and drums. He also uses loops and samples, and a bit of flute.
Added to this, however, are his unusual vocals based on throat singing, a form of deep-toned vocalization that uses overtones. It might be recognized as a technique used by Tibetan monks. On the second track, Australia, his vocals sound like a didgeridoo.
Mountaniol also has conventional vocals derived from New Age themes, as when he sings about changing the sky on Skychange,or sings about watching a rainbow on Writing Dark. At other times, it sounds like he is singing in tongues.
The tone varies from hard rock to light pop. But through all of it, Mountaniol's unique vision shines through. This is music like you have never heard before. It is not for the faint of heart, or for those who are only comfortable with familiar sounds.

A groundbreaking work of an undiscovered genius!
Shamania is one of the most original, trippy, weird and spiritual rock albums ever made. Written, performed and produced solely by Arthur Mountaniol, this work is a strange fusion of rock and ethnic music of Asian, Celtic, Native American and Viking origins.

The main inspiration behind this project is Shamanism. For those who mistake it for Satanism, I have to explain that a shaman is tribal medicine man, a witch doctor and also more widely adopted in literature - a poet, a musician, a visionary, and an ultimate master of ecstasy.

And the main active ingredient here is a throat singing - a vocal technique used by some ethnic singers in Asia. It's a low pitched sound that resembles a didgeridoo. And that's what strikes you as super odd when you first listen to the opening track "Recluse".

As you continue, you get more and more mesmerized by the whole experience. The music ranges from hard rock to progressive and psychedelic rock, tribal world music, Celtic and dark blues rock and something that is really hard to define.

This music is very visionary powered by a fine instrumentation and creative guitar work that explores unknown sonic possibilities. Mountaniol also uses a lot of electronic drums and samples and even a bit of a flute.

His voice also demonstrates his tremendous vocal ability to do various things, anything from a throat-singing to rock and wild ethnic utterances.

Some of the songs on the album are sung in a strange language and the rest in English. Lyrics don't necessarily follow the concept of Shamanism, but rather illustrate the mood of the songs. Some of them sound like they were taken out of context, but that's what Surrealism is all about. The musician shows you his subconscious world where things exist in any order, time and space.

Back in the beginning of 2000's Arthur Mountaniol received many rave reviews from Music Connection Magazine, KLOS 95.5 and LA Music Awards, just to name a few. They called him "Insane Genius, Mad Maestro and Salvador Dali of Rock". Yet all of them agreed on one thing that this artist is extremely innovative and a bonafide original.

I highly recommend this album to those who've outgrown the ordinary. This is the music like you've never heard before and will never hear from the others.

Dave Howell,Southbound Beat Magazine

Trrripy as Voodoo!
Yeah, this record really took me somewhere I certainly needed to be.Wish I knew what kind of drug this guy used to come up with such a great shit!

Bernard Baur,Music Connection Magazine

Bonafide original
Like an acid flashback,Arthur Mountaniol is hard to believe and impossible to characterize.A self-proclamed Martian or a mad maestro. An enigma who will confound critics. His music is an amalgamation of Seventies-style hard rock,American Indian Chant and sonic explorations that bear a little resemblance to any known sound. His signiture vocal is truly bizarre sounding similar to a human didgeridoo. As to his fretwork,it's not only exceptional but like his vocals is totally unpredictable and full of surprises. This artist is a bonafide original.

Jeff Sanders

Arthur's music is ingenious. It reminds me of everything I dig about 70's rock like Grand Funk Railroad and Ted Nugent. Very Cool.
