Album Notes
Described by fans as "Steely Dan meets Manhattan Transfer," Mourning to Dancing does whatever it takes to get the musical or lyrical message across. As such, it is influenced by world music, vocal jazz, a cappella, classic rock and even Baroque. The brainchild of writer/producer/musician Jack Ballard, the group includes female vocalist Deanna Miller, and male vocalist, Kelly Ballard, Jordan Morrison on drums, and Dave Kana on sax. Ballard plays keys and fretless bass in addition to vocals. With the exception of the cover of the popular 'Broken Wings" by Mr Mister, their debut album is of all original music written by Jack Ballard with artist Jackie Kotira from Kenya on "Bwana" and David Bunker contribution lyrics for "The Quiet.'

Other releases by Ballard include two albums in the smooth jazz area with trumpeter David Wells, several bluegrass projects, including those with flatpicking champion, Gary Cook, jazz with Some Guy and His Brothers, and the "rave reviews" CD, The Psalms with artists David Friesen, Alex Acuña, Fletch Wiley and Tom Pattitucci.
