ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"MR Quartet" is a Canadian jazz band. It was established in 2006 by bassist Al Richardson and pianist Mark Meitine to explore their musical ideas.

'Doctor Al' Richardson has been playing bass on the blues scene for more than 15 years, while keeping one foot firmly rooted in the jazz world. As a self-taught bassist, he can provide no list of great teachers and mentors. Oh well. Doctor Al has recorded with old-school blues masters such as Snooky Pryor and Mel Brown, and had the good fortune to share the stage with such musicians as Kim Wilson, Carlos Del Junco and Shawn Kellerman. Doctor Al has also had the pleasure of performing modern works with The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and taken a tour of Central American music styles with Herencia Latina. Along the way Al has had the good fortue to perform at many exciting venues, including the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest, and the Cognac Blues Passion festival in southern France, which was a heck of a good time.

Mark Meitine was born in Moscow, Russia. He studied classical piano, but became a passionate jazz & blues pianist after hearing the famous Oscar Peterson Trio recordings, and later graduated from the Moscow College of Improvised Music. Mark moved to south-central Ontaio in 2001, where he performs at such venues as The Boathouse and King Street Trio (Kitchener-Waterloo), Manhattan's (Guelph), Trane Studio (Toronto) and The Rex (Toronto).

"Seven Miles To Heaven" was recorded in 2006. The music on this CD was written by Mark and Al. "Seven Miles To Heaven" became a result of collaboration of brilliant canadian musicians, including David Rodenburg on sax, and Jim Boudreau, Peter Grimmer and Howard Southwood on drums.

Recording was made in Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph. Mastering was done at FIND A WAY studio in Toronto.
