Album Notes

Since this is all my doing, I begin the record with a song, “Pocket Full Of Soul”, that I wrote, and played all the instruments except drums, which are performed by Garth Tichy.

Next comes The Nighthawks’ “Big Boy”. The Nighthawks have been known as the “hardest working band in show business”. From the Washington, DC area I was lucky enough to
sit in with the Nighthawks when I was about 16. The Nighthawks are beloved by an international fan base and celebrated worldwide.

John Henry is a prize winning Swedish Bluegrass band led by Mikael Backman and
Ulrika Weinz. Mikael is also a music teacher and Ulrika a world class Artist and donated the album cover art for MS Blows! Their band John Henry sounds more like they’re from Kentucky
than their home in Sweden.

Charlie McCoy is a humble master of music, and one of the A-team of studio musicians, arrangers, and musical directors of some of the most important scores and TV music. Famous
as the “Fastest Harp in the South,” he also plays some of the most sweet and melodic Harmonica on the ethereal “From a Distance” here, previously unreleased.

New A-Team Harmonicist “Jellyroll” Johnson lends a swingin' Ray Charles tune on the Harmonica from his solo album with other great players from Nashville including Pat Bergeson
playing guitar. Jelly is heard playing
Harmonica on countless recordings from many of the biggest names in the

Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds is an acknowledged King of the Blues Harmonica. Kim’s “Love Attack” is a prime example of his stellar tone, singing, playing and groove.

Joe Filisko is known as the best Harmonica Technician of the world, and as a noted proponent of Prewar Harmonica styles. Joe teaches classes in Chicago and performs with Eric Noden internationally. Here they contribute”No One Gets”. This song is dedicated to “Uncle Frank”.
Eric “Two Scoops” Moore is a longtime friend and musical partner. Two Scoops’ lovely wife Amy is stricken with MS severely. They got married at the original House of Blues under an Honor Guard of guitars. Before their engagement Amy began to experience symptoms and was then diagnosed with MS.”Same Old Girl, True Blues”,and “Washtub Robbie” are examples where I play Harmonica with Eric.

Rick Estrin is one of the very best blues players. A historian and an amazing entertainer, he is well known among those who know what is good. Here Rick sent this greasy, slippery, jump tune demonstrative of his mastery.

PT Gazell is another Nashville
first-call Harmonicist with a unique and mysterious style. Playing a so-called “valved diatonic" Harmonica, no one seems to understand how he attains the extra missing notes but he somehow does and really
swings here with his contribution ”Broadway”.

”Hand to Mouth” may possibly be the last recording of Paul Butterfield, performing here along with Mickey Raphael, who was the one who had the idea for this project. Mickey is
also on many recordings and is well known for being a member of Willie Nelson's band/family.

Jim Conway is an exceptional player from Chicago where he plays Irish, folk, and blues musics. This medley was made exclusively for this project and has 3 parts.

Henry Lee Spencer was a friend and bandmate of Two Scoops and myself. Together
we recorded 4 albums. This song does not have Harmonica but it’s pure Henry, and was chosen to complete the MS Blows! Album.

These Harmonica friends have
my joyful thanks and admiration.
Please help support them by buying their recordings and attending their shows,

There are also many MS organizations and events where
support can be shown to move toward a world free of MS.
