ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
HOMAGE – a tribute to Cuban music in the 1950s & 60s

Featuring 21 songs and 5 singers ‘Homage’ is a tribute to the golden age of Cuban music in the 1950’s and 1960’s. With a percussive and exciting brass section, driving saxophone ‘montunos’ , audacious jazzy arrangements, popular Cuban rhythms, quirky lyrics, and danceable music, the album is a homage to this great era and to artists such as Benny More, Rolando Laserie, Pio Leyva and Orquesta Riverside that made it so good.

Most of the original recordings of these songs were performed live for radio broadcasts throughout Cuba, and with ‘Homage’ Mucho Mambo successfully emulates the live recording process as would have been done in the era.

" For many years Sydney's Mucho Mambo have been creating sounds inspired by the supple dance grooves of Cuba's Latin-Jazz orchestras from the 1950s and '60s. The music is played with flawless conviction and great panache. This was delightful music in its heyday and sounds like it was invented yesterday when played by Mucho Mambo"

" One could consider the music of Mucho Mambo in a number of different ways - cultural, social, historical - but most of all, it's quite simply a lot of fun. When the band hits its stride, I defy anyone to remain motionless. Mucho Mambo has something for your head and something for your feet.”
