Come sail away with WYNKEN, BLYNKEN AND NOD:
Music to soothe and delight!

Got an overload of worries or stress in today's crazy world? Medicate with music and soothe your aching mind with the latest release from ZOPPA RECORDS™.

This small yet growing label founded in music-rich Portland Oregon by musicians Brian Godula and Ellen Kjelgaard Godula, gift us with their original music in the form of their latest release, WYNKEN, BLYNKEN AND NOD.
The Godulas have tapped into the trend of recording music for children that not only soothes and stimulates their growing minds and bodies but appeals to the grown-up as well. "We began our MUSICAL VERSES™ series after the birth of our daughter. We wanted to give her a gift of music and not just a hipped up version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, not that there's anything wrong with that, but to make music an adult would want to stay in the room for", says Kjelgaard Godula. She goes on to say, "In rediscovering the wonderful old poetry of Robert Louis Stevenson, Eugene Field, Walter de la Mare and so many others, we became inspired to turn those lyrics into songs". The music is mezmerizing, the poetry delightful and the vocals of Ellen Kjelgaard Godula would offer aural respite to the weariest of humans.

WYNKEN, BLYNKEN AND NOD is not just a musical experience however. The CD is packaged with a 36-page booklet of the poetry and is highlighted with lovely vintage illustrations. "We wanted to afford everyone an opportunity to enjoy the music and booklet; kids just learning to read, parents and grandparents wanting to sit with their children, look at the illustrations and listen, as well as read or sing along with Ellen", says Godula. "There are gentle songs as well as get-up-and-dance tunes on this album. The spirit is lively and there are alot of great musicians adding their talents to the project".
Portland musicians Eddie Parente on fiddle, Gary Harris and Danny Schauffler on woodwinds, Botielus on accordian, Bret Malmquist and Mark Bonney on guitars combined with Brian on bass and Ellen on keyboards and vocals round out the list of players. The combination of instruments on this 15-song CD along with the clear sweet vocals and charming poetry is irresistible.
Their first release from 2002, THE LAND OF NOD, has just been recognized with a 2004 Parents' Choice GOLD Award, top honors from a prestigious children's media evaluation organization, and deserves a look and listen.
Both WYNKEN, BLYNKEN AND NOD and THE LAND OF NOD can be found in bookstores, children's toy and specialty shops, online from the Zoppa Records website, and her on Children's poetry has never sounded so good!

Psychologist Recommended!
This winsome recording will refresh a tired mother at the same time it will give her baby a valuable lesson in music.
As a trained child therapist, and counselor to hundreds of children, I understand first hand how important the first few years of a child's life are. Give your child the best exposure to music early on with recordings such as this, by talented musicians, who could easily have chosen to do music for adults only, but instead, have lovingly focused on the world of the child.

Very soulful and deeply heartfelt music.
Much like the first volume of Musical Verses, there is a lot of Love and Care here. It is lively without being jarring, peaceful without being dull, and overall, just a joy to listen to. This music is not JUST for children, it's just good music, plain and simple. Your children will love the music and the stories, and they, and you will remember it. The title track is characteristic of the whole; playful and spirited, and excellent ensemble playing by all of the musicians. I have quite a few favorites here, beyond the title track, but I'll try to be quick. #4, 'A Good Boy' is playfully matched to the poem, with wonderful musical suspensions and walkdowns. #5, 'Bliss' is in fact blissful. Beautifully crafted melodies by Ellen's voice, and augmented by the sax playing counter-melodies, and a beautiful solo. #7, 'Skipping Along Alone' is a nice lively jig. #8,'Fairies' is a beautiful ensemble piece that is moving and very effective, check it out! #9, 'Close Your Eyes' is pure sweetness. #11, 'Stars' is quiet, soulful and deep, with the blue side of Ellen's tone showing through. Last, but not least is #13, 'There Isn't Time', very appropriately and soulfully matched to the lyric.

Ellen Kjelgaard Godula possesses a rich, soulful voice...
This is the second volume of verse by such poets as Robert Louis Stevenson, Eleanor Farjeon and Sara Teasdale set to music by Ellen Kjelgaard Godula and Brian Godula. The musical arrangements are very reminiscent of the early children's music albums like In Harmony, made in the seventies by Carly Simon and Kate Taylor. Ellen Kjelgaard Godula possesses a rich, soulful voice in the vein of Laura Nyro, making this a very enjoyable experience for both children and adults. The poems such as Winifred Welles' "Angel in the Apple Tree," Eleanor Farjeon's "There Isn't Time," and Teasdale's "Stars" are provided with jazzy or light, tasteful rock arrangements. The whole affair has a very Broadway feel in the best sense of the word. The collection includes a 35-page booklet with complete lyrics and reproductions of Victorian children's book illustrations, bound handsomely into a DVD case, very classy all around.
