Album Notes
"Lullabies and Longings", her 7th album, is a dream fulfilled for Myrna Rabinowitz. A Yiddish album, with 5 songs composed and written by Myrna, 3 lullabies in celebration of her grandchildren and 2 songs in loving memory of her parents, "A Zise Mame" and "Mayn Tate". "Fun Yener Zayt Lid" is a poem written by Montreal Yiddish poet, Rokhl Korn z"l, with original music composed by Myrna. The other traditional Yiddish songs such as "Rozinkes Mit Mandlen (Raisins and Almonds)" convey the tenderness and love that Myrna brings to the beloved language of her childhood.

"Lullabies and Longings" has been described as “haunting and moving”, “enticing and poignant", and many have reported that it is 95% effective in helping their children fall asleep!!

The daughter of holocaust survivors, Myrna grew up in a Yiddish- speaking home in Montreal where she developed her love and appreciation for Jewish music. Myrna has taught Yiddish to adults and children in Vancouver and has included Yiddish script as well as translation and transliteration in the booklet which comes with the CD.

A singer, songwriter of Jewish Music, Myrna has recorded three albums with Vancouver’s Jewish World Music band TZIMMES in Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino as well as two albums of Jewish sacred music with the group SHIR HADASH including Hanna Tiferet Siegel and Harley Rothstein in Hebrew and English. Her first solo album “Hashiveinu” of original soulful music for Shabbat prayers and blessings for life’s celebrations is also available at

Myrna has performed in Canada, the United States and internationally and is well known for her heartfelt interpretation of Jewish song. Through her music, her song and her voice, we are transported.

Review by The Canadian Jewish News
Angel-voiced Myrna Rabinowitz, a child of survivors, grew up in a Yiddish-speaking home in Montreal. Yiddish was the rich and emotionally yielding language through which she formed her very first understandings of our world and dreamed her first dreams.
Rabinowitz gently conveys that cultural richness and deeply-welled emotion in her CD recording Lullabies and Longings.

Based today in Vancouver, Rabinowitz is a singer/songwriter of Jewish music, the female vocalist for the Jewish World Band Tzimmes of Vancouver. Five of the 10 songs on Lullabies and Longings are original pieces that Rabinowitz wrote “in loving memory” of her parents and for her grandchildren.
Rabinowitz poignantly and at times even achingly, as in her rendition of Moyshele Mayn Fraynd (Moshele my friend) captures the innumerable ways in which Yiddish conveys kindliness, vulnerability and surpassing warmth.
As befitting the types of songs on the CD, Rabinowitz sings tenderly and sometimes tremblingly, seared affection embracing the plain meaning of the words and a patently shining love summoning forth the shuddering memories that her songs evoke.
