ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Hey, world! It is a supreme pleasure to introduce to you: “I LOVE YOU”, by n.a. + a.n. This sparkly debut CD combines modern electronic elements and twists of mid-80's southeast underground rock embellishments with classic Mo-Town record production techniques. These mixtures create a sweet and rich musical dialect that feels like the crush of your dreams. They sneakily mix discordant instrumental sound collages within their deceptively simple lush pop gems.

n.a. + a.n. was formed by Natalie Agee and Aimee Norwich after they met in San Francisco in the summer of 2006. They were both working on an evening length multi-media show with other artists for The National Queer Arts Festival; Natalie was doing acrobatics while Aimee was providing the musical backdrop for the show. On day three of the run of the show, Natalie decided to call Aimee at 2 a.m. "just to say, ‘Hi’". They've been inseparable ever since. Shortly thereafter, they decided to form their band.

n.a. + a.n. is a feminist, electro-quirk, mock rock band, devoted to building communities that advocate the values of diversity, tolerance and human kindness through the production and performance of their music. “I Love You”, is filled with the spirit of the big blast of falling in love. It’s about bringing openness and possibility into the world.

They’re DIY, all the way. They wrote, recorded, mixed and produced “I Love You”, in their Brooklyn apartment, employing an old-school recording sensibility with superior songwriting and craftswomanship. The songs are super catchy, with definitive hooks and lyrical melody lines, high-end distorted guitars, and call-and-response choruses. The wild and crazy Walter Wendy Carlos-inspired instrumental piece, “Sparkle Motion Central”, starts you out on a high energy roller coaster ride. The title track begins as an atonal punk song, only to slide into home base with a catchy repeating lyric: “I love you…”. In “Natalie!”, a Unicorn-Boi tells a large chorus of people about the girl of its dreams. “Kissing Pool”, with crystalline repeating chime tones, unexpectedly splashes into a high energy two-step country-esque jam.

“I Love You” is wildly diverse, with a range of musical influences. It keeps a through-line of optimism, energy, and strong musical integrity. Hey world, n.a + a.n. is just calling to say, ‘Hi!’. They want to give you sweet lovin'!
