Album Notes
A wonderful reunion album of the popular sixties folk group The Travelers Three. Re-named Na Kama Hele (The Travelers), Pete Apo, Charlie Oyama, Joe Lamanno and Mike Botts reunited with friend Rick Cunha in Rick's California recording studio for this special project of all Hawaiian music. A delightfully melodic set of songs that features Charlie's old school "slack key " (Ki Ho' Alu) acoustic guitar stylings that provides the musical base for the traditional vocalizing of Hawaiian melodies.

Remembering Mike
Long time friend of Mike Botts. Attended his 50th birthday party with most of the guys in the band. Mike gave me a copy, someone lifted it at an event this past weekend.

Long time FAN
CDBABY and especially you Charlie. My rememberance of singing in the basement of Susan Campbell with you and Ed Kenney and perhaps others. As an adopted Hawaiian by my choice I have longed for a touch of the old days. We shant let another 54 years roll by without the joy of this inspiring music. MAHALO

Great CD! Love the sound!
Was introduced to the Group because my friend Charlie Oyama is one of the members. I have played it over and over again, and never tire of it. A couple of the songs could have had better vocal distinction so I could really understand all the words... but on the whole, this is one of my favorite CD's.

Good sounding traditional Hawaiian music plus some good not tradisional.
I first heard the Na Kama Hele on If you like Hawaiian music, his on line radio station is a must. The group's traditional tunes remindes me of the 50s and 60s music of the Islands. They play most of the traditional insturments used in Hawaiian music. Makes me want sand between my toes. A truly great group!

Unique - a tranquil audio journey to white sands and gentle seas
The blend of simple instruments, along with the unique, velvety harmonies of these musicians, provides a welcome respite from the fast-paced, cluttered realities of daily life and responsibilities. I remember Pete Apo and Charlie Oyama from their early days when they were part of The Travelers 3 trio and I was just a teen-aged groupie. As I listened, I was pleasantly whisked back over 40 years to their days and their sounds at Elektra, and truly enjoyed the added quality of maturity and experience in their voices. It just proves that we don't get older, we just get better. Thank you, CDBaby, for making this collection available. I look forward to Volume II, perhaps including "Katy Cruel" and "Tamure"?

Great sound & rhythm
Hawaiian music at its best. Great music by seasoned performers.
