Album Notes
Recognized as one of Japan's leading emerging jazz vocalists, Nanami Morikawa won the prestigious Grand-Prix at the Asakusa Jazz Competition in Tokyo (2008), and has been a featured artist at major Japanese jazz festivals. She is highly popular with jazz audiences, and appears regularly at all major jazz clubs in Osaka and Kobe.

Ms. Morikawa has a solid and multifaceted foundation of musical experience in support of her vocal artistry, possessing a degree in Music Composition (Kobe Yamate University), and studying both violin (from age three) and jazz piano, in addition to her study of jazz voice.

Nanami Morikawa has just released her first CD — Open Spaces. The CD features Miami jazz pianist Phillip Strange, Larry Marshall (drums), and Tetsuro Aratama (bass), and reveals a nuanced palette of personal expression and creative artistry through her interpretation of songs by Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Harry Woods, George Gershwin, Billy Strayhorn, and Cole Porter.
