ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Nana Schwartzlose. Book of life.

”Book of life” is the follow-up album from Danish singer Nana Schwartzlose after her acclaimed debut ”Notes to Remember”.

”Book of life” is recorded in Denmark with a selected group of local musicians but the sound and feel of the album is vibrantly universal.

The album features a handful of songs that centers round the personal and irresistible voice of Nana Schwartzlose – and ranges from passionate introvert tales of lost love to songs of hope and happiness. Nana Schwartzlose delivers each word with the personal, relevant, and beautiful sincerity that has become her musical trademark. Pain and joy are mercifully balanced and every emotion of every song stands out crystal clear. All songs are accompanied by the extremely skilled and dedicated rhythm group – creating the perfect background setting for Nana’s voice.

On the song “You and I”, Nana joins forces with Texan singer Eric Beverly, who has co-written and sings on the track. This is by no means the only American influence on “Book of Life”. New York is Nana’s second home and serves as a natural subject in both her music and in her lyrics. And her intimate interpretation of the big city is equally revealing and refreshing.

Nana Schwartzlose / Book of Life Lyrics:

Summertime
Today I´ll sing you a song. It´s ”Summertime”, just
like the one you know.
Slept on the roof to be as close to you as I can,
on this day when you spread your wings and take
to the sky.
We walked many miles. You and I. We talked
about life and this day, that now has come.
I wish you could be next to me tonight and sing
”hush little baby.
Don´t you cry..”
Wish I could fly home to you. Walk next to you.
I´ll sing you a lullaby under the red morning sky.
Hope you hear me now, when I sing to you.
It´s 5 am and the church bell rings. A new day is
about to begin here in New York.
From this moment nothing can harm you. I bet the
fish are jumping and so are you now.

It’s Okay
Thursday morning, it´s time to go.
We´ll walk through town. Going slow.
Its impossible to rush.
Take your time, I won´t push you
We´ll walk together.
We find a couch and have some breakfast
at the cafe by the lake.
You´re feeling weak and fall asleep
I´m used to it, so I sit and read.
You´re safe. I´m here beside you
Now and then you make sounds.
Where are you now?
Something´s wrong I try to wake you.
But it doesn´t work right now
Something isn´t okay, right now.
No it isnt´t okay right now.
We leave the cafe in a car, you´re lying in my arms
We are driving fast through crowded streets,
i listen to you breathe
Hey where are you now
The doctors take over now.
They ask me 1000 things
As they bring you back to me
You are back where you should be, every day
I guess that it is okay now. It´s okay, now..

Boo k of Life
I walk through Central Park. See this lady she´s at
least 100 years old.
She´s dressed in a long warm coat and umbrella
that protects her from the leaves that´s falling down
on this sunny afternoon.
Shes the book of life that took a 100 years to write,
a book with an unknown end.
She brings out a bag of bread and the pigeons
come to her.
She´s quiet sweet and calm and the look of her
makes this sunny autumn day so warm I wanna
stay.
She turns around and then she´s gone.
Shadows gets long and soon she´s gone for the
day.
New stories come my way.
Every day.

You and I
Smoke in your eyes. Is that why you cry?
Would you let me know. if it wasn’t so.
So long ago. Cant get back now to the days before
truth washed up on the shore.
I´m wanting you now. It´s different somehow.
Yet I don´t know where we would go.
You and I.
I would ask for you hand.
But I see you´re fine where you stand.
I just came to say. I´m going away.
The things that you want you know I can´t give
I´ve already tried. Is this a final goodbye?

Lets Take a Minute
Woke up in a quiet house. Had dreamt I was
forgotten.
That nobody recognized me on the street. Not
even people I have known for a long time.
Looked for a letter on the floor, but the
mailman didnt reach my door.
Maybe he lost his job today. Who writes on
paper anymore anyway.
So I turned to cyberspace, ´cause that´s
where everybody meets now-a-days.
The place you cannot hide, because there´ll
be updates from everybody´s life.
If we could all just take a minute and
remember who we were.
Hey, lets take a minute and remember how
fragile we can be
I went out to the backyard with a cup of coffee
in my hand.
Sat there for a second or maybe 2 hours.
Listening to the falling leaves.
Listening to me.
I turn off my phone. This moment is mine
alone. Maybe I get bored as a kid who lost
his toy.

Walk Alone
I´m Walking. Its late at night
The city that never sleeps, sleeps tonight
Caught in soft white sheets
Sound and light turned down low
I see my footprints behind me in the snow, soon
they´re covered and gone.
Is this how it goes when you walk home alone.
No one will track me down
No one sees me now
No one sees me now.
When I walk home alone
Underneath the snow lie the seeds, waiting to grow
Then I´ll be by the shore
And wander with you
We´ll leave our footprints behind us in the sand,
soon they´ll be covered and gone
Is this how it goes if you walk hand in hand with
someone
No one will track us down.

Snoo p Dog
I walk where I want. I make decisions on my own.
I ain´t got a house that I call, home
I´m a dog. I´m on the run. The world is my own.
A new adventure every day
Depends on where I go, and stay
I don´t know the words, ”wrong way”.
I ain´t got a map. I just follow my nose.
´Cause.
I´m a Snoop Doggy dog and I walk on my own.
I got my four brown shoes and I ain´t got a phone.
´cause I am a street dog. I´m a street dog baby.
The world is my home.
If you´re lost and need a sign just ask me very nice.
I know the streets like ”the back of my hand.”
Cause I´m a dog on the run.
The world is my home
If you ask me where I go.
You get the answer «I don´t know.»
If I meet a friend, I´ll stop and say hello.
´Cause I walk on my own. No train to catch.

Washington Heights
Take the A or C train Uptown.
Get of fat 168th street.
Where the houses are only 8 floors high and a big
old bridge is in your sight.
You´re in Washington Heights.
In Washington Heights..
My favorite spot is right on Broadway.
An old man dances in my greengrocer store.
The owner had a life in Spain before he took the
uptown train.
To Washington Heights. Washington Heights.
The Chinese chef on the corner isn´t shy.
He always jumps out the door and asks me kindly.
Where did you go? Where have you been?
Will you be back and buy my rice?
Here in Washington Heights. Washington Heights.

3000 Meters Abo ve City Level
With my backpack I hike through the Alps.
It´s summer but where I walk there is snow
For 10 days my only mission is to walk
and let the thoughts go wherever they will
In the afternoon I put up my tent
Cook my freezedried brilliant meal
I´ll drink my tea and enjoy the beautiful view
The only sound is when the glacier looses a piece.
Feels like a needle in a haystack
3000 meters above city level
I take a break from the weekday I leave my phone
at home.
I´m out of reach away from questions
Reload my bateries.
I´ve got no watch only the sun. No stress no noise.
Wish to come home and make my day a vacation
everyday.
As i walk back to the city my thoughts return to the
ordinary day
Who wrote? Who called? Who is pissed because he
only got my answering machine.
When I get stressed I´ll think of the days. 3000 meters
above citylevel.
