Album Notes
Growing up in a small town by the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania, Nancy Fox learned many of these hymns in her great grandfather's church where her mother encouraged her to make up harmonies and sing out on Sunday mornings.
Classically trained with a B.M. and M.M. in voice, training at the Mozarteum Opernschule in Salzburg, Austria, and doctoral studies bugun at The Juilliard School in NYC, Fox returned to her musical roots years later to honor a request from her mother to "sing some of those hymns on a recording." With mostly one take for each song, in an informal setting where her mother made suggestions for hymns to do, Fox and her two excellent colleagues, Elaine and Bill Sheva, ad libbed their way through a recording spontaneously done, and which continues to receive rave revues. "It was all from the heart, that's for sure" said Fox. Everything we did, we did because we loved it! Fox also recorded the unusual "Voice of Serenity" - a series of vocalized Mozart canons and Lieder (songs) recorded in collaboration with Jayne Stopyra's amazing keyboard orchestrations. She can also be heard on Music Minus One's "You Sing the Shows," singing lead soprano roles in thirteen classic Broadway recordings. She jokes, "I can always tell when my students have learned a role from one of those recordings, for they have copied my vocal style or personal expression without having any idea the voice was their teacher's!" Fox now runs a busy vocal arts studio which includes Operafest International, a foreign exchange program for students from her studio. For more info:
