Album Notes
Naomi LaViolette’s "You’ve Got Me" has a sound best described as ”retro-pop”. It’s flirty and funky, with a lot of groove. LaViolette’s smooth vocals span the sultry blues of Norah Jones to the ambience of Sarah McLachlan, and her inclusion of both vintage and current keyboard sounds are reminiscent of both the funky rhythms of Billy Preston and classic folk-rock of Carole King. All songs on the record are written by LaViolette, with the title track including co-writer Justin Jude. The songs tell stories of falling in love, life lessons and heartbreak, while striking a distinctive balance between sweet flirtation, soul-searching and gratitude.

The record was produced by Tim Ellis and LaViolette at Kung Fu Bakery Recording Studio in Portland, OR, with engineering, mixing and mastering provided by Steve Sundholm. LaViolette provides vocals, piano, keyboards and percussion. Other credits include Bill Athens on bass, Ken Ollis on drums, Tim Ellis on guitar, Renato Caranto on saxophone, Paul Mazzio on trumpet and flugelhorn, Matt Brown on vocals and guitar, and Christina Cooper and Heather Schrock on background vocals.

LaViolette is a Portland, Oregon native and earned a master’s degree in classical piano performance from Portland State University. She studied with Portland jazz greats Randy Porter and Darrell Grant. LaViolette also performs in the classical music scene, as the accompanist for the Oregon Repertory Singers since 2004 and as a chamber musician in Classical Revolution PDX. LaViolette has opened for national and international acts, and performed at esteemed venues and festivals including the Portland Jazz Festival, Jimmy Mak’s, the Doug Fir Lounge, and The Bite of Oregon.

LaViolette’s music has received great review and critical acclaim from media including Oregon Music News, The Oregonian, The Portland Tribune, Willamette Week, StereoSubversion.com, KATU’s AM Northwest, KINK.fm, and KMHD.fm.
