Me & "G"

by Nate West

Who is Nate West? He is a worshipper, musician, songwriter, composer, Husband, father and devoted friend. Coming from a musical family, Nate West exemplifies the meaning of his name, gift of God. Nate's Saxophone voice has developed over the years into a desirably rich, earthy and robust sound. His unique musical style and tone has evolved from listening to mentors such as that of Grover Washington Jr, David Sanborn, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, Everette Harp, and many others. His Gospel roots are most likely why you will hear a lot of soulful expressions in his playing.

Album Notes
Gospel Jazz Saxophonist Nate West releases a single off his up coming Cd release “Uninhibited “. The tune Me & “G” is a tune he composed as a tribute to one of his favorite Saxophonist, Gerald Albright! Nate invites Gerald to join him on the track not as a Saxophonist but as a Bassist. As many know Mr. Albright is a Muilti-instrumentalist and plays most of the instruments on his own projects. Albright lays down some funky Bass on this tune as well. Similar to a Gerald Albright tune, you’ll hear some lush horn arrangements along with a warm brass synthesizer weaving in and out of the track. There’s lots of musical texture throughout with former Ledisi musical director Anthony Walker strengthening Albright’s Funky Bass line with syncopated piano bass. Walkers piano solo midway in the track is an improvisational clinic. Walkers solo leads into Nate’s close out solo with glimpses of a Gerald Albright solo but Nate has his own voice and expression. You can certainly hear the influence and it’s a great tribute to Gerald. If this track is any representation of the entire CD, the world is in store for a musical treat come November 9th 2018.
