The Near Myths are six old friends who finally got together in July 2004 to record that CD they'd always talked about. The CD was recorded in a small studio in Wilson, NC, which is one (but only one) reason The Near Myths' debut CD is titled Wilson. All but one of the Myths are from the southeast U.S. The "odd Myth out" is the group's token Canadian. (Seriously, how can you call yourself a band if you don't have at least one Canadian?) All six members are accomplished vocalists, and so it's no surprise that one of The Near Myths' strong points is vocal harmony. All six are also multi-instrumentalists, and four are songwriters. With such a lineup, it's no wonder The Near Myths' music is a tuneful and eclectic mix of folk, rock, pop, country, and blues, featuring compelling and engaging lyrics. It's a contemporary sound, but one that definitely owes something to the classic rock and folk music of the 1960's and 1970's.
