Album Notes
When Kentucky-bred roots rockers Ned Van Go moved down I-65 to Nashville at the turn of the century, they were a much different band than you hear on their latest release "The Dirt and the Sin." "Oh, we've heard it all" says band founder and lead singer Ned Hill. "Farm rock, roots rock, alt-country, cow punk-we've been tagged with all of them." Known for their raucous live shows and infectious cult classics, NVG has established themselves as a fixture on the Americana scene, garnering a devoted following from Dallas to Detroit. "Our last record 'Lost In The Trouble' finally captured our rock sound and received great reviews but we've always wanted to record an acoustic based record, especially with Bob in the band. He's a really great mandolin player."
Bob Grant, formerly of the Bad Livers, joined NVG in 2010 and helped forge a tighter sonic attack with long time rhythm section Reggie and Viva Las Vegas. "Michael did such a great job on 'Lost In The Trouble', so we went back to him with the idea of cutting this acoustic record."
Michael Webb has long been involved in the Americana scene, producing Scott Miller, Poco, Stacey Earle, and playing on the latest albums of both Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton. "The whole band really grew on this record, " he says, "Ned's songwriting has reached another level."
The record is augmented by the inclusion of some great guest players including Leroy Powell (Shooter Jennings), Scott Mulvahill (Jim Lauderdale and Ricky Skaggs), Chelle Rose, Stacie Collins, and Tom Mason, helping shape Ned Van Go's "The Dirt and the Sin" into an Americana masterwork!
