Album Notes
Corky Jones was the first musician to record for this CD, and Michael Daughtry was the last. In between them, came a personally selected group of very talented musicians, and a spoken word artist, who followed a simple request, “Give me what you feel, and you can feel it with no limitations”. They responded by creating some of the most absorbing music, I have ever had the pleasure of hearing.
The Nightwalker Chronicles, Volume One, “Hearts”, is a mixture of musicians, Corky Jones, Roy Arne, Sean McDaniels, Ron Stringer, Puncho Forrest, Michael Daughtry, Ray King, Tom Beckwith, Greg Biltz, Leigh Stevens, Ty Manning, Jamey Moore, Erik Smallwood, and the beautiful poetic talents of the “Lioness”, Ms. Mesha McGregor. Each artists produced freely, their own thoughts and ideas into the music, which allowed me to work my ideas and emotions, in the selection of poems I was going to use. Their ability to find the connection, was done with the utmost care to detail, and these professionals have my deep and sincere gratitude.
Then, there is Will Thrift. Just like me, Will had no idea in which direction this was going. But, his reputation as a extremely, talented Sound Engineer, stood true to his professional nature. Not to mention, he has a very unique ear. His expertise in the creating of this project, and his desire to see it develop was invaluable. Our ultimate goal was to produce a product that touched not only the realm of “spoken word” poetry, but was a movement for the heart and spirit. And each session required, and encouraged, its own circumstance.
Many people had been asking me to present my work in a book, and there were a few, who thought a CD would be nice. It was clear from the start, I was not going to make a CD with me, just running off at the mouth. Over the years, I had become familiar, and very appreciative of so many talented artists, who were traveling down different roads, and creating “artistic adventures”. I relate to these artists, because my life revolves around the beacon of “diversity”. As mentioned in the CD jacket, my desire was to create an “eclectic” adventure. One that would capture the emotions within the poetry, and those emotions would be captured in the hearts of the listener. I needed the music be mad enough to bring sanity to my poetry. But most importantly, I had to speak not only of me, but for the community, I love so dearly
This project is an extension of my love to all of the people, who have been an influence in my life, in a variety of ways. I have received their blessings, through a complex combination of life, love, and all the other things that matter. This was what I wanted in The Nightwalker Chronicles, and I believe it has been achieved!
