Album Notes
I was a young whippersnapper once…just like you. You might not believe it, but I was. I had it all – I was the finest dancer that ever stepped into the Palace Ballroom. I can’t even begin to tell you how I could cut a rug to all the greats. Benny Goodman. Cab Calloway. Glenn Miller. They don’t make music like that today, do they? Oh, how I miss those days.

Yep – I had it all, but I gave it up. Big road trip, you know? Traveled miles and miles all over the country in search of…something. I can’t remember what it was. The perfect dance maybe? I was a drifter for a time. A sort of gigolo, if you will. Just living the free and easy life wandering from town to town. Life on the road caught up to me, though.

I was a carefree soul back in those days. Always dressed to the nines with my spectator shoes polished and my hair slicked back…handing out wolf tickets to all the ladies. But then I fell in love. Oh was she beautiful! And she broke my heart. So where do you go once you get your heart broken?

Yep, I went back to my old hometown where I mellowed out in my old age. Became legit, you know. Started my own business and everything. Became pretty successful. When I retired, they even made me chairman of the board of the company I built with my bare hands! How do you like that? I still dance sometimes, but not like I used to.
Usually bands like Neon Swing X-perience are too fast and too loud for me. First time I saw those bums, I thought “what a bunch of good-for-nothing young punks dressin’ all fancy-schmancy like they know everything.” But, you know what? After a time, their music started to speak to me. I found I don’t need to dance – just listen.

So, here I am in my twilight, and how do I want to be remembered? I asked those guys to chronicle my life story on this album. They even let me pick out all of the songs myself. Songs that speak to me. Songs that describe where I’ve been. They’ve been playing these songs over the past few years at smoky jazz clubs and finally they put them all together so others will hear my life story through their music. I hope you enjoy it – they worked really hard on it. And if you don’t like it, go take a hike! This is the story of my life and I love it!

You know, through all my many years, though, I learned one thing…but the lessons never make sense until the encore, right?

Good luck and God bless,

“Grandpa” Seymour Tempo
