Album Notes
Originally released in May of 2008, this self-titled project leads with the hopping-good "Gospel State of Mind", featuring some slick Dobro work from Marvelous Markie, followed by the easy shuffling "Jesus Never Sang the Blues". "Sweet By and By", "Far, Far Away", "Great is Thy Faithfulness", and "Higher Ground" are all long-time favorites. "The Rock That Won't Roll" will delight little kids and big ones, too, particularly Rick's razor-sharp harp licks.

"The Road Back to Eden" takes you "right through Calvary", while the bouncing "Sheep and Goats" will separate them that do from them that don't - "Is you is or is you ain't?" The Gospel standart "The Unclouded Day" requires no introduction, only our request that you sing along loudly. "The Door", featuring a guest appearance from Reggie Rooster, will entertain you, then break your heart, before "Gospel Shoes", with Markie's hot guitar licks, takes the Gospel News to the streets.

The NEW EARTH BAND is comprised of committed, genuine Christians who hail from the Reading, Pennsylvania area. We thoroughly enjoy sharing the Good News of the Gospel and the imminent return of Jesus in a happy, bouncy song and a spirited testimony. Our good-time music is a loose and easy, down-home blend of Country Gospel, Southern Gospel, and a hint of Rockabilly styles.

Each selection is carefully chosen for the purpose of communicating a positive, uplifting message that’s firmly rooted and grounded in the Scriptures. In actuality, the NEW EARTH BAND is an earnest, end-time Gospel ministry, delivering the undiluted Word of God in easy-to-assimilate 5-minute segments!

Group members are: Lee Schappell (”Little Buford”), guitar and vocals; Marvelous Markie Miller, guitars, Dobro and vocals; Joel Zarska (”J-Zar”), bass; and Rick (”Slim”) Guinan, harmonica. We are joined occasionally at live performances by old friend, fiddler / bassist Warren "Cadillac Mose" Boyer. Check out http://cdbaby.com/cd/newearthband2 for our most recent CD, "Gospel Truth", which features Mose and his earthy fiddle artistry on eight tracks. You'll love it!!

We come from lengthy, varied backgrounds and musical experiences. Rick and Joel have both played previously in blues bands, while the Markster has always been rooted in traditional country and bluegrass. Lee is an old, driving rock-and-roller with a heart for those raw, rock-a-billy and bluesy country roots of the 1950’s. He had a brief "cup of coffee" with Cameo Records as "LeRoy & His Rockin' Fellers", in 1961. Mose is a long-time rock'n'roll and pop artist whose claim to fame is his pop band, "The Cadillacs", from the Weller's Tavern and Dolphin Lounge era.

When you carefully blend these individual influences together and bring them to a slow simmer, they form the bedrock foundation of The NEW EARTH BAND's unique, raw-edged, rural flavor.

The NEW EARTH BAND plays wherever the Gospel is welcome: all sorts of church functions, from a full concert to a music night, a youth gathering, a seniors group, to special music for the worship hour. We also perform for residential facilities, coffee house settings ("Heavenleigh"), community center ("The Torch") and outdoor events ("The Father Folk Fests"), fund-raisers and promotions, and have played three concerts at Berks County Prison - and what an incredible experience that is!

Four out of five doctors enthusiastically recommend "The NEW EARTH BAND" as a blues-buster and a gloom-chaser, or for whatever in tarnation might be ailing you. We sincerely hope you enjoy our full, rich sound, are lifted up by the profound messages God has entrusted with us, and that you are moved to purchase our music as "therapy" for those days when, as the second track on our CD, "Jesus Never Sang The Blues", says, "... all those jerks are nipping at your heels ...", and that old sun absolutely refuses to shine!

If you would like The NEW EARTH BAND to bring its bouncy, happy, raw-bones Gospel message in music to your group or occasion, you'll find us at our cyber-home, the NEW EARTH BAND "Website for Sore Eyes", with a quick link at the lower left of our main page.

May God richly bless your life and give you the faith, strength and tenacity to hold on with a mighty grip through these rough times on the road of life. And always remember, "The road of life has bumps, we all must take our lumps ... but Jesus never ever sang the blues - Hallelujah! - you can thank God Jesus never sang the blues!"

Be blessed, amigos! We'll be looking especially for you in God's Kingdom !! - The NEW EARTH BAND
