ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Thanks for your interest in our music! Here's a bit more about what we do...

The New Scottish Hymns Band write joy-filled songs that are sung in churches across the world.
The songs are written to encourage followers of Jesus, and to communicate the power of the bible's transforming message of hope. The band is led by Scottish hymnwriter Greg de Blieck, whose poetic lyrics powerfully underline the truths being sung in a way that challenges and encourages the listener.

The melodies are memorable, and singable, but never boring or too simplistic.

The songs aim to communicate scripture faithfully, in a compelling way - whether in congregational-style hymns and psalms, or in more personal, reflective songs.

The band are concerned to communicate biblical priorities, not only focussing on the parts of the truth that we believe are "presentable". We love God's word - even the things we can struggle with, and the songs let the full message of scripture shine through, so that it can shape and define us.

We're an indie music ministry here in Scotland, and you can hear the Scottish influence in our songs - though we are not really a pure "folk" band - the music draws on other diverse influences such as jazz, hip-hop and electronica as well as trad, hymnody and pop/rock.

Our musical heroes are people like Isaac Watts, James Montgomery, Horatius Bonar and Charles Wesley. They all went to be with Jesus a long time ago, but their songs still serve His church today. We want to be a part of that awesome, honourable heritage.

It's wonderful to hear of our songs bringing encouragement to people, and being sung in churches in lots of other countries as well as here in the UK. We hope they help you to engage with the amazing truth of scripture - the fact that God came into this broken world to save broken, helpless people like us - that he was broken Himself, so that we might be made whole; died so that we might escape death and hell, and be forgiven for our rebellion, drawn back to the all-satisfying God who loves us, and for whom we were made. Hopefully our songs will help you glimpse that amazing Good News, and give thanks to the God who is there, and who is calling us to Himself.
