ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I am excited to share this album because it’s my first grown up contribution to Texas Music – what I’ve soaked up along the way, at least. There’s a little bit of Hill Country porch stompers in here, telecaster twang jams, some pretty mean fiddling, even a little Tex Mex accordion shredding, courtesy of San Antonio’s accordion extraordinaire, Josh Baca. And the songs! The older tunes I’ve carried with me for years now, sharing them with friends and family at parties, campfire sing alongs, even rooftop jam sessions. The more recent ones have been rattling around inside my heart, itching to shake loose in this latest chapter of my life. Either way, these are the “keepers,” as my family of gulf coast fisherman would aptly say. These are the ones that have always been worth holding onto – that stir up memories of celebration, friendship, and lasting love.
It’s been a journey creating the arrangements that have brought each song from heartfelt acoustic strummers to full band, dancehall worthy compositions. When I first approached my good friend, Zeke Benenate, bass player for the Charlie Robison Band, about helping me produce a country album, he smiled and said, “hmm, that’s a little different from the last recordings we made of yours, which were acoustic reggae songs.” Little by little though, I convinced him that these tunes were really at the center of what I’ve always been as a songwriter, which is, a soul travelling admirer of the Texas landscape, its state of mind, it’s inclinations...always seeking to translate that through guitar and voice. I suppose this album is not so much a collection of stories then, but rather a highly drinkable batch of spirits, or odes, to those nostalgic feelings and how much I want to hold onto them, so that they’re never lost in time.

Great songs. I'd love to play some of these (just no covers allowed) on my syndicated show "Country Legends In The Making" that reaches 400 am/fm stations around the world. You can take a look at my radio site at http://www.tspcountryradio.com and even listen to the recorded version of the show there if you like.
