Album Notes
This is the first solo recording from Nicola in a while - written, recorded, performed, engineered and produced in her home studio. All her past musical incarnations are palpable here; from the early stripped down pure acoustics of her debut album, to the sparse romantic soundscapes of Mandalay, she adds singing bowls, bells, clarinet, nylon guitar and deep piano samples to affect a moving and meditative experience. The focus remains on emotional integrity, where space is as important as sound, and with subtlety and dynamics beautifully realised and enhanced by mix and mastering engineer Jørg Surrey.

Intimate Sketches
The wait is finally over! Nicola returns with a stunning set of intimate vocals, subtle arrangements, and introspective lyrics. Quarterbright's soft and dreamy atmospherics allow Nicola to produce some of her best vocal work to date, and her lyrics reflect the wisdom she's acquired throughout the years. This EP also showcases Nicola's skill set as an accomplished musician with gorgeous arrangements on piano and acoustic guitar; a sound we haven't heard since her debut solo album, A Bowl of Chalk. Welcome back, Nicola!

I wish that I could give these three tracks a qualified musical criique, but it will have to suffice to say that they are truly magical. Nicolas voice just sends chills down my spine and fills me with happiness and sadness at the same time, which is a rare quality to have as a musician. There is suffering in it, but also a clear message that moving on is the answer. This has been a long work in progress, but the wait has been well worth it, I know that Nicola will be very proud of the end result, as well she should. Keep up the good work and hopefully we will hear much more in the next year ! Congratulations Nicola, this is truly beautiful !

Stars come down to Earth
Nicola has been away for quite some time, but here with this EP she proves that quality not quantity is the golden rule. The voice of Mandalay is instantly recognisable, but here there seems to be more space than usual which both compliments the voice and gives Nicola centre stage to shine oh so bright. There are echoes of Elizabeth Fraser and Kate Bush (which is nice) and even a Madonna from an alternate reality, but Nicola has a distinct sense of self which shines through and gives her equal place among her peers. These three songs are just gorgeous, walking the line halfway between sadness and hope. All we can hope for is more from Nicola in 2013 and that she receives the praise she deserves.

3 slices of shimmering beauty
In her much anticipated release Nicola shows that less is definitely much much more. She continues the move, started in the Passive Aggressive album, towards a more stripped down approach to her music. Simple, subtle but very very effective - the backing music provides the perfect canvas for that incredible voice to wrap itself around some gorgeous lyrics. Three slices of shimmering beauty. Lets hope we don't have to wait so long for the next three.
