Album Notes
Born on the high plains of Dakota, Nikk Wolfe grew up listening to the wind singing songs in telephone wires and telling stories in time with the cries of coast bound trains. Nikk recognized those same sounds listening to late night radio broadcasts the first time he heard Robert Johnson playing slide guitar and was hooked, wanting to make that kind of music himself. Learning the blues on his brother’s Silvertone guitar and perfecting his playing, Nikk moved to Portland, Oregon for some years before relocating to Minneapolis and playing in various bands around the Twin Cities. Nikk eventually became frustrated by the music business and quit performing. A chance listening to a “South of I-10” by Sonny Landreth inspired him to refocus on songwriting and playing slide guitar.

Around this time, Nikk was introduced to Kai Ulrica at a band audition and the two soon became musical partners and husband and wife. Together they started the band Wolves at the DoorTM. Working with Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer extraordinaire, Kevin Bowe (Johnny Lang, Shannon Curfman, Etta James, Joann Shaw, and many others), the Wolves recorded two CDs and continued to record and perform. Wanting to record an all slide CD of his songs, Nikk worked with keyboard player, Mike Vlahakis (Luther Allison, Bernard Allison) with help from Bernard Allison’s bass player, Jassen Wilber, and drummer, Erick Ballard. The result was Slide Stormin’, an 11 song set of Rockin’ originals.

Influenced by Sonny Landreth, Johnny Winter, Dave Hole and others, Nikk has forged his own voice from many years of playing music and paying dues. Calling his style “slide guitar with attitude”, Nikk plays blues/rock that kicks ass but also
tells a story for people who like to listen, staying grounded in the blues but adding some rock-n-roll attitude and a bit of country to lay out his own vision of slide guitar wizardry.
