Album Notes
Nina is born of Moravian & Norwegian descent with Bohemian tendencies....Living in Australia.
Nina’s debut album , The Shape of You” is a collection of
Torch, Tangos, Bossa & Blues- a sexy collision between Herbie Hancock and Julie London's wicked sister.
A Jazz Jacuzzi where you get the odd glimpse of Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen from between the bubbles. Vox and her band deliver a brilliantly performed, heartfelt, poignant and at times humorous vitamin pill for an ailing night. If music is food, this album is a Dark Lindt Ball with a Wild Turkey center."

The Shape of You (2009) - Nina Vox ( )
The debut CD for Nina Vox released last year is a beauty! With a collection of songs old and new, Nina brings her seductive vocals to classics like Corcovado, Round Midnight, The Very Thought of You, and Tom Waits’ Temptation, but for me, the standout tracks are the two more uptempo songs written by the cd’s producer Tony King - The Shape of You and So Sue Me. With musical arrangements by pianist Bill Risby, Nina has surrounded herself with a bunch of talented Sydney musicians, with the end result being a wonderful experience for anyone who enjoys the jazz sensibilities of these fine artists. A must for your collection !

OLIVER DI PLACE on Nina's version of the Tom Waits song Little Drop of Poison...
As jazz music developed, Latin jazz became an important subgenre, one that many artists still draw on today. Nina Vox makes her debut with an album that draws heavily on this style. She has a sultry voice that recalls cabaret singers, and the combination really works.
Here she turns the Tom Waits song Little Drop of Poison into a tango, and all of the emotion of the piece survives nicely. I could tell you that Nina Vox hails from Brazil or Argentina, but no. She’s actually from Australia.

Imbued With All The Magical Elements...strikes a chord in the heart
The beauty of jazz as a musical genre is that its very essence requires the singer to open a part of their heart to the audience that they might in other genres keep hidden.

Not everyone can sing jazz—its structure differs from other musical styles and the jazz singer has to have an innate sense of timing and a particular vocal timbre to be able to pull it off.

Nina Vox, has imbued herself with all the magical elements that make for a unique sound that drips honey-like and strikes a chord in the heart.

There are no sharp notes; no staccato, no scat—just cruisy numbers Vox has placed her individual stamp upon.

Nina Vox is a complete experience. Even the CD cover is a journey unto itself with its quotes from Kahlil Gibran and Vox poetry.
Standouts include the title track written by acclaimed Australian songwriter Tony King and covers of The Very Thought of You and Don McLean's poignant Vincent.

Under Bill Risby's arrangement, some of Australia's finest musicians joined forces on the album including George Washingmachine on violin, Paul Furniss on sax and clarinet, Hamish Stuart on drums, Brett Hirst on double bass, Tony King on guitar and Fabian Hevia on percussion.

The Shape of You is an eclectic mix, from Tom Waits' A Little Drop of Poison and Temptation to Don McLean's Vincent to Duke Ellington's Solitude, Leonard Cohen's Dance Me to the End of Love, Consuelo Velazquez's Besame Mucho and King's originals The Shape of You and So Sue Me.

Nina Vox has made a compelling debut!
