Album Notes
Producer, singer, songwriter, rock n'roll guitar player & indie label entrepreneur: Neil Leyton is a mainstay in the Canadian music scene. Originally frontman for Toronto's glam godfathers The Conscience Pilate, in 1998 Leyton embarked on a solo career with the release of the critically acclaimed "Secret Avenue" album. His first single and video, "fires of the heart", aired on MuchMusic that Summer.

Live, Leyton's unpredictable, candid appearances range from intimate acoustic soirées to full blown electrified rock n'roll excess - as documented on the live tracks of his "melancholy, understanding" 12-track EP (soon also to be made available via CD baby!). That set, recorded live at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern, featured a back-up band made up of other top-notch Canadian rock n'rollers: Brian Christopher (The Sinisters' drummer), Ky Anto (ex- Sassy Scarlet, Michael Monroe, Sylvain Sylvain guitarist) and Sean Kelly (69 Duster, Crash Kelly, on bass). For the last two UK tours Leyton has been fortunate to tour with Ky as well as Amen guitarist Rich Jones, longtime friend and ex-Black Halos founder.

Leyton's next album, titled "...from the brighter side of her midnight sun..." extended the boundaries of his songwriting range, both musically as well as lyrically: influences from Shelley to modern day sociologists / psychiatrists Fromm and Gruen. Production-wise, it has everything from the harshest guitar noise (think MC5, International Noise Conspiracy) to the sweetest melodies (from Jeff Buckley's high-registers to latter-day Nick Cave's more understated charms.

The BEAT EP is his latest release, out on the new Fading Ways Music UK label started by Leyton and UK director Ashlyn Eaton. It is issued under a Creative Commons license, which allows fans to home tape without fear of the RIAA. It is the anti-thesis of Midnight Sun: five straight-forward songs, no interludes, no spoken word - just the music.

Leyton is presently in Europe touring and working on his next album, The Betrayal of the Self.

"Mixing a british strut with a Yankee attitude, his sound is perfectly suited for the new millenium." -Dave Bookman, The Edge 102.1 FM

"A lot to live up to, given the solo billing, and he managed to comethrough with a tight, captivating set." -Rob Bolton, Exclaim!

"It was so perfect... Neil Leyton's high, urgent rock voice is like a melodic John Lydon... I loved it." -Karen Pace, Nettwerk Records
