Album Notes
The new recording from No Explanations is a truly eclectic blend of sounds! Joie de Vivre is a further example of the versatility and the outright joyful unpredictability of this unique band of musicians, who have once again defied genre with this release.

Among the many surprises on this CD, not the least of which is the hauntingly romantic, gypsy-like title track sung by Shani DuFrain, there is a three-part American Suite for Irish Dancers with actual Irish hard shoe dance steps and even some Spanish hand claps as percussion! The incredible violin skills of Emily Wellington are featured throughout Joie de Vivre (French for "Joy of Life") and the mainstay musicians are the band’s founding members, Dan Leonard on both nylon and jazz guitars and Mark Christopher Brandt on piano.

Joie de Vivre is a multicultural journey through French, Spanish, and Italian sounds with the underlying current being American folk music and jazz harmonies. The inspiration for the CD, however, began with pianist and composer Mark Christopher Brandt’s close association and collaboration with Irish Dancers and three different trips to the Emerald Isle.

The beauty of Ireland, the romanticism of Europe, and the hope of America are all melded into one joyful musical journey where the thread that binds all of us together is love.
