ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Somehow Norm managed to keep the use of most of his fingers after surviving forty years of being a carpenter and contractor, living, working and supporting a family in a little mountain, logging town in Oregon.

Norm began playing the guitar in Upstate New York at the age of fifteen and carried on the musical tradition of his family - a mandolin playing father, a fiddle playing grandfather who was also an Adirondack mountain man, and hunting and fishing guide. All of Norm's uncles and cousins were musicians and his earliest memories were of old time music, bluegrass, gospel, early country music and The Grand Ol Opry playing on the radio late at night.

In his early twenties, he moved to North Carolina and was influenced in a big way by the music of the Appalachian Mountains. Also living in Texas, Southern California and the Willamette Valley of Oregon before finding his way back to the mountains around Oakridge, Oregon. Always carrying a guitar with him on his journeys and adventures, he started writing songs from his personal life experiences in the 1980's. After having several small bands, playing traditional and bluegrass music, live performances and starting and managing an open mic at the local pub for four years, and after the urging of many friends and fellow musicians, Norm picked eight out of the forty songs he has written and put together his first album - The Book of Norman.

He already has plans for two more.
