ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
When I ask people to help me define what my musical genre is I am often met with the same puzzled looks that I also have when trying to describe my music. Some have told me that it reminds them of Frank Zappa due to it’s lack of any other niche slot that it could fit into. Others try to define it by each song individually and while some songs can fall neatly into a given genre, others still tend to be less easily categorized. I just simply call them music. All of them are songs that hammer themselves out in great detail inside my brain in a potentially neurotic never ending playlist of music that demands that I record them if only to relieve my mind. I used to try and keep my songs relegated to one genre and even had a fairly successful career somewhat sticking to that genre. But my mind yearned to follow other musical directions. It seemed that just about any sound, phrase or natural rhythm that occurred around me started a new musical idea bursting at the seams to be made whole and recorded. By now you may realize that the music never stops in my head. I’m okay with that but it does become a distraction when I’m supposed to be paying attention to other facets of life continuing around me. My wife is reasonably patient as well as supportive.
A bit about me… It all started when my mother; who could read music, sing and play piano, gave me a ukulele in my baby crib. Growing up I was always playing and composing on piano although I got kicked out of piano lessons for “playing by ear”. I have only recently learned to read the notes, although poorly. Around 13 years of age I got my first guitar and borrowed a reel to reel from a friend. I would pick up the needle on or record player and place it carefully down again in just the right place spending hours on end learning guitar riffs from old folk and blues records. I was hooked. From there I managed to record and experiment with tape loops and multiple recording devices to stack tracks. One friend managed a ‘stereo equipment store’ that had a 4 track in the back room. I wish I had those recordings now! Through so many bands I learned how everything fit together in a group situation, both the dynamics of the music and the interpersonal dynamics of a band. But I had also grown up in theater and had a love of Broadway musicals and orchestration. What a mix! So I suppose that is where I got the idea to mix all my influences together making a big mishmash of styles. Then, life changed drastically. To support my new found situation I fell back on the Blues to help guide me through some interesting times. It supported us through some years as I was already quite proficient at slide guitar and certainly always have a love for the old school blues. But my ‘other’ music was banging around in my mind begging to be released. Life changed again and we found ourselves living a relaxed life on a small island in the middle of nowhere. Technology, time and my abilities had finally caught up handing me the ability to finally realize the music I had been dreaming of for so long. I changed my name to reflect my different musical persona and recorded 3 albums. Now with the release of the forth “IV” I feel that the juices are flowing freely! I’ve decided to put another album up soon after this one because that’s how it’s flowing out right now! I'm a mockingbird! There are so many more on the way! It is my hope that you will enjoy them as much as I have releasing them from the confines of my mind! Thanks for listening and supporting alternative music!
