Album Notes
Novus Cantus, Latin for "New Music," was created from the musical collaboration of two brothers from Poughkeepsie, New York. Consisting of voice, acoustic guitar and percussion, Novus Cantus performs original compositions influenced by ethnic, rock and early music. Their debut album "Novus Cantus," has been the result of years of work, composing, recording and mixing a set of eight original songs.

Member Biographies:

Alexander Herasimtschuk (Voice, Guitar, Bass)

Currently a professor teaching philosophy and world religions, Alexander's academic interests have had a major influence on his musical collaboration with his brother Christian, with whom he has been performing for the past five years. After studying guitar throughout college, Alexander has been greatly influenced by medieval, renaissance and boroque music for lute and guitar, as well as flamenco and South American styles. In addition, the complex and often 'heavier' riffs of bands like Jethro Tull and Metallica have also been highly influential.

Christian Herasimtschuk (Drums, Percussion, Guitar, Bass)

Although he has been playing the drums since elementary school, Christian began to take drum-study more seriously after high school when he became a student of Eric Wagner. As a pupil of Eric Wagner, Christian studied a variety of styles including rock, latin, blues and jazz. Christian also has a keen interest in ethnic percussion and drum set construction, which led him to organize a variety of world instruments, from Latin America, Africa and the Middle East into an "Ethnic Set", which has become a signature of Novus Cantus.

After having performed throughout the Hudson Valley for several years, here is what a few fans have had to say about Novus Cantus:

"Novus Cantus is a professional duo who make very original music. Their sound is exotic, yet down to earth and stripped of any unneccesary gilding. Their basic rhythms and percussion seem to fit the mood they create and relate to the audience in a personal way that one doesn't see very often."

-Franc Palaia, Artist and Curator, "G.A.S. - Gallery and Studio"

"Each time I hear Novus Cantus perform I am in awe of their virtuoso musicianship and amazed by the quality of their original compositions. Their music has captivated me..."

-Tony Regina, Pianist and Composer
