ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
the NOW is NOW story

"With all the negative metal, pity-parties and aggressive-abusive stuff that passes for rock music nowadays, the enjoyable, highly harmonic music created by Mitch Alden (principal songwriter & lead vocalist/guitarist) is a refreshing change-of-pace." - Lucky Clarke, Scribner News Service

Much like the caterpillar who rarely thinks about becoming a butterfly until he actually is one, “NOW is NOW” is a band about living in the moment. “Mitch Alden has passion! That's half the battle with any pursuit in life. This guy's sheer talent as front man for “Now is Now” will convince you, especially seeing them live. I have their CD and like it enough, but when I saw them perform last month, I was mesmerized!” comments Portland rock critic Aimsel Ponti in considering their live show.

Mitch Alden, former NYC resident turned backwoods Maine hermit, serves as the band’s lead vocalist & guitarist, while bassist Drew Wyman and drummer Neil Carroll, provide propulsion to the NOW sound’s heart throbbing rhythms. While only together since 2000, their music transcends generations. The band has been described as one which “has learned from their predecessor's mistakes, taken their feet off their monitors, abandoned the rock poses, and ditched the apathy to create a montage of rock stylings that is from Gin Blossoms to Live and Sheryl Crow to STP.”

Alden has a voice that is powerful and biting
MITCH ALDEN HAS PASSION. That's half the battle with any pursuit in life. This guy's sheer talent as front man for local band Now is Now will convince you, especially seeing them live. I had their CD and liked it enough, but when I saw them perform a few months back, I was mesmerized.

Being someone who often leans toward acoustic music, the rock goddess in me was unleashed as Alden's electric guitar playing knocked me over.

First, the lineup: Alden sings and plays guitar, Dan Paul handles bass, and Neil Carroll handles drums.

Their record "Transitions" (A lot of Records) contains nine sturdy tracks. Alden has a voice that is powerful and biting, and he sings songs of self-discovery and about stops along life's journey. This is a rock record for sure.

Things are slowed down here and there, and the title track is instrumental, but this album rocks. To be properly won over, catch this band in the flesh.

Lucky Clark

this highly harmonic music is a refreshing change of pace.
From the tiny town of Steep Falls, Maine, comes NOW is NOW, a new band that has me typing superlatives.

The power trio (Mitch Alden, lead vocals, and guitar; Dan Paul, bass and vocals and Neil Carroll, drums and vocals) has released a nine-track debut album of original material that features gorgeous close harmonies and enough musical hooks to keep such songs as "Daydream," "Down," 29 Years," "Now," "Young Man," and "Sail Away," firmly planted in your mind.

When I review a CD, I try to listen to it at least three times before sitting down to compose a critique. I have listened to this excellend CD at least seven times and here's the skinny - NOW is NOW has its roots firmly planted in the sounds of the past. There are overtones of Boston, REO Speedwagon and all those groups from the '70's that caught your ear and your heart with their accessible, fun pop-rock.

With all the negative metal, pity-parties and aggressive-abusive stuff that passes for rock music nowadays, the enjoyable, highly harmonic music created by Mitch Alden (principal songwriter and co-producer of this project) is a refreshing change-of-pace.
