ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
N.S.U (North Side Underground) is one of the prominent groups coming out of the blooming Philadelphia hip hop scene. Coming out of the mean streets of North Philadelphia, NSU, is derived of 7 members who all play an important role in the hip-hop super group.

Starting in 1994, the members met while auditioning for a spot in a movie called "Northside". The movie did not end up making the big screen, but it brought a meeting of the minds in which Prep and WE met and decided to join forces in becoming a group. The plan was to start something that at the time was non-existent in the hip-hop world. A hip-hop group composed of all Puerto Ricans with distinct skills that could all contribute to something great. NSU was officially born in 1994. Composed of D-Lo, Darek, An-day, E, Sino, Prep and WE, the group would eventually seek out their territory and take over the streets of Philly with their unique lyrical skills.

NSU worked with several producers in developing a distinct sound and tone for the group. Unfortunatey, these productions did not fit into the scheme the group had in mind. Then came the emerging talent of WE, who at the time started dabbling in the production aspect of the hip-hop game. The end result was pure perfection. Armed with an ASR and 4-track Tascam recorder; the group began displaying their skills over original beats by WE. This gave them an advantage over the competition...as all the rest were using other known hip-hop artists beats to rhyme over.

As the years went by the group continuously created new material and started distributing Cds to local people in the area in order to generate a buzz. This would lead to the word spreading about whom and what was NSU. As the time went by, WE started upgrading his equipment and broadening his horizons in the production field. This led to creation and distribution of new material amongst the Philadelphian hip-hop heads.

By the year 2000, NSU was already generating a buzz within the hip-hop community by displaying lyrical talent over original beats. Plus, the fact that the group is made up of Latinos increased the interest in the group.

By 2001, NSU was ready to compile their first compilation album in which all the members would be able to showcase their talent to the masses. This led to the formation of the NSU Compilation Volume 1 on 2Complexx Entertainment. The album entirely produced by WE, would showcase all of the groups talent from 1995 up until 2000. This was a major move for the NSU. Computer smarts allowed them to distribute their music to the entire country via the internet. The internet showed major results as people from all around the country started to hear and purchase the album.

At the same time, the group was ready to work on the second compilation album. All the new material on this album will showcase the evolution of what the group has done in the decade they have been together. The end result is an album that covers every aspect of hip hop to the T. The group has been able to showcase their metamorphosis in a distinct way...There's a marriage of lyrical flow and content with WE's original beats and production.

Now in 2003, the group has completed the new album, NSU compilation volume 2, and is ready to make a mark in the growing Philadelphia hip hop scene as well as the nation's hip hop scene. The group has matured as artists and, as businessmen, analyzed the music industry. Great Lyrics and Hot Tracks...the combination is nothing other than a complete formula in generating platinum success and respect within the hip-hop community.
