ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
DREAM8 began when 32-beat studios in Jerusalem, heart of the world, offered Ofer and Netta his favorite studio musicians 2 hours "on the house". They recorded TRAVELER'S PRAYER in Hebrew and English. The Hebrew version opens a prayer compilation CD released in Israel during Lebanon War II. That summer 6 songs were recorded in Holland with Makko Coster, master of simultaneous scat trumpet and Contrabass. Back in Israel 6 more were recorded.
DREAM8 is the story of a journey taken by Klezmorim, itinerant Jewish musicians, who realize that by playing melodies in unison they can jump in space (Jerusalem/Amsterdam/Heidelberg Conspiracy)and time where they can see through the eyes of musicians playing the same instruments - KLEZMER SPIEL A NIGUN. A scary proposition resolved with humorous manic positivism in CONSPIRACY (it's all a big conspiracy… designed to help and protect me… and all of you are part of it… even if you don't know IT). BE MY FRIEND, a one minute gem in classic AABA is an arrow to the heart. With Accordion and Soprano Sax they confront the EGO (Everybody's Got One), start a proletarian musical mutiny on the battleship POTYOMKIN, an instant up in the tradition of Reb Shlomo Carlebach. The text: Yoi Doi Doi Doi Doi Doi (meaning I GIVE in Spanish) 2 chords, Ukelele, handclapping and happy vibe has made it the nonsensical motto of a strike for minimum wages by a Platoon C in the army. They ask for protection by surrounding themselves in a 6-sided cube of musical/magical ANGELS and discover the soul's longing for home in ON THE ROAD a.k.a. the Baal Shem Tov's Nigun. Cat Stevens' title with a heavy Jewish twist, leading to Jerusalem through the barrel of a Clarinet and answering "why does the soul descend and take a body in this world?".
DREAM8 (a.k.a Doven Away, Be Yourself, Reb Zoosha, and DubitAway) will haunt you with its Indian blues loop. Two voices give 2 different feelings to the same set of words. Consolation mixes with resignation in a hypnotic admonition to Be Yourself.. HEALING PRAYER a flamenco piece with a Hebrew prayer for healing shows off the soulful voice of Yael Tai. 10 FINGER PSALM, a desert prayer to be a channel for healing through music, carries the CD's intention for a tour of hospitals. setting the scene for EEUWIGHEID (eternity in Dutch) – 6 minutes born in a Mastery workshop in which 6 intensely focused minutes of looking in a mirror showed me my father looking at my son through my eyes.
The participating musicians are all legends in Jerusalem and beyond. Ittai Binnun (Andralamousa, Joseph and One): Nye.Abe Doron (Evergreen, Riverdance, Los Habaneros) played Bohdrun, Udu, Spoons and assorted percussion to give the Irish- Indian tint on Jazz Magician Angels also graced by Ofra Avni's Bansuri. Daniel Yaakovson (Zohar Shabat,Ruach Hadasha) on Clarinet and Yaakov Gornstein (Marsh Dondurma) on Soprano Saxophone provided wind and Aitan Ulman (McDonald Metzada) added voices and Ukelele on the infectious singalong POTYOMKIN. Oren Fried (Kol Oud Tof, Yiddish Express) provided the Spanish flavor with Cajon and Palmas on Healing Prayer which highlights the amazing voice of Yael Tai and Rahel Jaskow (Day of Rest) rounded it up with her one-perfect-take harmonies.
Many stories around the recording – the Dream Workshop, Rabbi Ruth's Chassidut mornings, Miracle Maker Circle, a May tour of Germany with WHAT?!?, Army of Clowns, All Nations Café, Barbur, Purim, Birman, Daila and the controlled insanity that is Jerusalem are still to be told. DREAM8 is 12 mirrors polished by 12 musicians (and 4 recording engineers) reflecting Ofer Golany and the tree of life interacting in musical arrangements with his friends in 2007.

Very different for me, but I do like the 'upbeat' music and the variations in the music.
