"Pages-
part of a book that I once read-
I remember I liked it,
but I've forgotten what it said.

If someone
should see me sinking here,
would they cry for me?
Would anyone care?

The sun rolls over the land-
10 billion working hands,
salt baking on the sand.

And I never lived like I would die."

- from "Like I Would Die"

The Old Kings was formed by guitarist, lead singer and songwriter Patrick Linton, guitarists Brian Crabtree and Paul DuPont and drummer Jeff DeFlorio.

The band achieved success in the young music community of Singapore and released their first CD in early 2000.

With the unfortunate departure of Paul at the beginning of the following year, the remaining Old Kings looked to improve and reinvent their sound.

It was at this time that they met up with gifted keyboardist Sean Nerney and talented bassist Dave D'aranjo.

All members of the band come from different, worldly paths, and the combination of their individual influences, experiences, and interpretations cumulated to the recording of the Old Kings' sophomore album, "Going to the Opera."

Patrick's haunting lyrics, exceptional singing and inspired guitar playing coupled with Brian's solid guitar solos, held together by Jeff's carefree drumming, Sean's sensitive keyboards and Dave's powerful bass create a refreshing and introspective musical entity.

The songs evoke a retrospective feel a la Bread, Jim Croce, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Don McLean and Crosby Stills and Nash. This is coupled with modern influences such as Coldplay, Jars of Clay, and The Beta Band. The songs are warm and melodic.

The band is named after Brian and Patrick's old stomping grounds of Route 6A in Cape Cod, also known as Old Kings Highway.
"Going to the Opera" is an album of promising young musical talent that should not be missed.

Try "Back to Freedom" to start with, then move on and listen to "Near" and "Girl" to get an idea of what "Going to the Opera" has to offer.

Truly Epic
This album can be summarized in one word: spectacular. No, even that single word does not do it justice. It relieves me to find that there is still good music being created out there. This fresh look on life and excellent melodies and songwriting give me a hope for the future of music. This is a must buy album. I want to congratulate those involved for pure creativity. I'm impressed!

What an achievement!
Wow, what an excellent compilation of material. You guys are some talented pippers. Exceptional singing - great compositions. I was especially impressed with the bass solo piece, "Girl". "Back to Freedom" is a beautiful number, as well. Excellent job -- when does the next CD come out?

Excellent
Being a peripheral part of the Folk/Blues scene in Byron Bay, Australia this kind of music is right up my alley. I think these guys are so much more talented than many in commercial rock music.
The singer's voice is truly angelic and somewhat like Healy from the band Travis. They evoke a gentle folk-rock sound like the classic british bands of the 60s.

Awesome! Review from a past, and hopefully future member
oh wow. As a former member of the band (only because I moved), and hopefully a future member, I find this CD quite amazing. The band has a much more solid foundation, and has created and started to solidify a more definite sound. particularly patricks singing style. It no longer has that by-the-book feel to it. Brian's soloing has vastly improved as well. As always it has room for improvements. Little things to spice it up but on the whole a great album!

Review from a friend of Pat's little bro
Finally! You guys are on the web! Rock on guys!
This cd is somewhat short, but with the amount of time (hints at evian water bottle) and effort that was put into it, it rocks. BUY THIS!!!!!

Rockin' with the home boys from afar
Having known three of the original members since they were iddy biddy little, it blows me away to realize how much they've grown and changed, and how their musical talents have blossomed beyond belief! Going to the Opera is an amazing mixture of music mastery, heartfelt lyrics, and an addictive beat that keeps you askin' for more! Way to go, Old Kings! :)
