Album Notes
Omar Lopez, more widely recognized as "the guy with the red violin", is a true entertainer. Raised in Austin, Texas, the classically-trained violinist culls his style from jazz, rock, pop, R&B, and even Latin and Middle Eastern musical influences. Voted one of the Best String Musicians in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, he has also been ranked as one of MySpace's Top Ten Classical Artists in Texas and holds his audiences' attention with his signature brand of instrumental fusion rock, emotionally-charged lyric-driven ballads, and his charismatic, commanding, and at times explosive stage presence.

"FOREVER RED", the debut album from Omar Lopez, is a compilation of songs chronicling love found and lost, and themes no less weighty and spiritual than birth, death and resurrection. Highlighting performances by an innovative and eclectic ensemble of musicians such as cellist Jennifer Mulhern, vocalist Karma Stewart, and flamenco guitarist Michael Rodriguez, "FOREVER RED" was recorded, mixed, and engineered by Omar's co-producer Adam Whaley, who also plays electric bass, keyboards, and acoustic and electric guitars throughout the album.

Omar spent five years creating the songs for this record and it shows in the vast range of musical styles which he incorporates into his original compositions - from the techno-inspired "Dawn" to the Middle Eastern and Latin world beat of "Exodus", and from the gospel-flavored lyrics of "Reasons for Living" to the driving hard-rock feel of the title track, "Forever Red". As a bonus, Omar also includes his danceable, electronic-pop rock version of the theme from "The Neverending Story", which became a favorite with fans during Omar's 2004-2005 concert series.

Unique Music
Interesting mix of music genres. Nice to hear something authentic every once in a while.

Exodus and Forever Red are my favorite, the violin just hangs on the note, very passionate. The soloist in Forever Red...I could have listened to her all day, then when the Violin comes into play...ah, just makes me smile. Full of energy, passionate music.LOVE IT!

This CD is wonderful. I was with friends downtown in Austin when we heard this amazing music. We ended up stumbling upon Omar Lopez! Unfortunately I didn't have any cash on me but I ordered the CD the next morning. Love it.

Simply amazing!!
When I received my CD Forever Red by The Great Omar Lopez, I couldnt stop listening to it. Everyday I enjoy it just a little bit more. Not only is he a great musician but, with this CD he truly takes the violin as we know it to the next level. It is a great inspiration to me as a fellow violinist. What would the world be with out Omar Lopez's music? After listening to Forever Red I would have to say pretty dull!! I look forword to hearing many more records from this remarkable person and musician!!! :-) Thank you!

Brilliant work, and my coworkers love it too!
This is a lovely album, and Omar's strings sing confidently in every piece. Having watched Omar perform live, I had very high expectations for this album. It suffers a bit from over-production however, for which one cannot fault the artist. Too much digital reverb left the music sounding somewhat cold and distant. The notes that would clutch at your heart and make you gasp with suprise were therefore mellowed out, almost muzaked, unfortunately. The vocalists were very lovely and talented, but almost sounded like they were singing for another genre. O--o--O--ver si--I--I--nging--ah and rising up and down the scale in steps was distracting, and clashed with Omar's more sinuous portamento. I would also like to hear Omar redo Neverending Story again with more naked emotion, as this version was a bit too reserved. Omar is a very energetic and animated artist. One literally watches as well as listens to his performances. In his hands, the violin itself vanishes into thin air. The notes seem to come directly from his face and fingers. Omar wears his heart on his sleeve, and there is a deep sense of emotional connection between him and his audience. Omar would simply be out of place wearing a tux and sitting primly in a chair while playing. I look forward to Omar's next album, and until then, enjoy his live, unleashed performances.

Very Happy
