Album Notes
One Spirit – Go For It!

Second “One Spirit” release. With the addition of Flying Dutchman guitarplayer Richard Hallebeek as a permanent member, “One Spirit”, the brainchild of bassplayer Frans Vollink and drummer Sebastiaan Cornelissen has now evolved into your classic fusion trio line up: Blistering guitar soloos on top of kick-ass rhythm-section playing.

Fusion lovers worldwide will find what they are looking for on this new album: Progressive writing, yet with the classical “Weather Report-Mahavishnu Orchestra” vibe and high level soloing by all three members. The compositions follow a melodic path with highly listenable compositions distinguished by energetic and thoughtful arrangements. On top of that the album features some hot guest appearances with Randy Brecker returning on trumpet and Steve Hunt (Allan Holdsworth) joining in for a keyboardssolo. Other guest appearances include Swedish keyboards virtuoso Lalle Larsson, dutch jazz-pianist Rob van Bavel and percussionists Martin Verdonk and Martin Gort.

One Spirit is:

Richard Hallebeek – guitars
Sebastiaan Cornelissen – drums
Frans Vollink – bass

Guest appearances:

Randy Brecker – trumpet
Ada Rovatti – tenor sax
Steve Hunt – keyboards
Rob van Bavel – Grand piano
Lalle Larson – keyboards
Martin Gort – percussion
Martin Verdonk - percussion

one spirit go for it
Allright, I have to admit..I'm biased.
I will buy ANYTHING with the Dutch guitarist, Richard Hallebeek. But, I'll tell you One Spirit is a band to be on the lookout for as well.
Their eponymous named 2005 release was a killer eye (ear)opener. I have to admit Sebastiaan Cornelissen and Frans Vollink were unfamiliar names to me and it was the impressive list of "guest" musicians like Randy Brecker and Susan Weinert that got me to purchase their first release.
What a great surprise that CD was! It instantly became one of my favorite releses of 2005. These guys form a monstrous rhythm section and with the addition of long time collaborator Hallebeek they are one of the best electric jazz bands going.
Cornelissen and Vollink both have distinct "voice" and as a fan in particular of bass players ( Jaco, Percy jones) I really like Frans Vollink's fat fretless tone.
"Go for it" nicely avoids the sophomore jinx ( I guess when you take 3-4 years between releases you can save up some good material..jeez guys!)I have waited a long time for this their second effort and it was no letdown.
Anyway, I'm am not going to break down "go for it" track by track, but I will tell you fans of Tribal Tech, Allan Holdsworth or just plain high energy electric jazz should not miss this. Comparing music is just a way to give people a hint of what the music's about..but I'll say this..in a few years I would not be surprised to read a review stating: " These guys sound like One Spirit".
My only complaint: why not a double CD? (unless that increased the wait for another release). I am really hoping that, like many other musicians of late these guys offer a CD baby live release. They have to absolutely kill it live.

Best thing I have heard so far this year. Thanks guys! Money well spent.

It says that second time it's better, but this time, second time it's SENSATIONAL!
After a first impressive album released a few years ago,ONE SPIRIT band strikes back with class, offering with GO FOR IT! a second album that "risks" to be one of the major releases of 2009 in fusion music! The project is now a band with it's own identity and they deliver a strong album ,a trully "tour de force" cd from some incredible versatile musicians lead by the fabulous bass player FRANS VOLLINK,a master of this instrument, seriously helped by the fine and virtuoso drummer SEBASTIAAN CORNELISSEN and the fabulous RICHARD HALLEBEEK on guitar together with other interesting and top class musicians.
The production is perfect and the playing is more than impressive! The music is focused on compositions and some little solo interventions in the middle of some songs from time to time, prove the amazing musical skills of the musicians involved in this band of TOP CLASS musicians!
The opening song TRICKY'S TALES gives a taste of what will follow, you won't be dissapointed at all, all the 60 minutes of the album are pure delightment and enchantment for all the good quality music lovers around the world! It's rare today to have a 60 minutes album without a single moment of musical boredom or extra tracks made to complete an album of 60 minutes, but this one is a pure musical diamond, with memorable compositions and a great musical alchemy between some sensational musicians that prove the fact that fusion music still has something serious to say today!
