Album Notes
This 2000 release is a collection of the best tracks from Tania Opland's first two cassette albums - "Renaissance Fare" (1987) and "Choice" (1989) - carefully selected, enhanced and meticulously re-mastered. A predominantly traditional/ Renaissance collection.

"In 1986 I was swayed by many requests to record an album. With little sense of direction and less knowledge of the recording process, I was very fortunate to team up with Rob Folsom, who had just opened his OMB Studio. 'Renaissance Fare' was the first full album to come out of OMB, and we both learned a great deal from the project. At the time, vinyl looked like it was on its way out, but CD’s were not yet well established (at least not for traditional music), so it was released on cassette only 'for now,' while I waited to see how things went. Five albums later, and with OMB studio sadly no longer available, Mike Freeman and I finally went back to the first two cassette collections for our favorite tracks. Some that we would love to have included were left out because of incurable glitches, and we’ve enhanced the original mixes here and there to suit ourselves...

"The songs and tunes we have chosen are predominantly traditional (English, French and American) or, in one case, self-penned. The exceptions that we know of are 'The Close Call' and 'The Roses Grown,' fiddle tunes by Danny Carnahan, and the ballad 'True Thomas,' also by Carnahan, retelling a story well-used by ballad writers over the centuries. Also 'Cruel Sister' and 'The Bailiff’s Daughter' have been significantly altered from their traditional forms by Dave Webb and D. Carnahan respectively. 'Chastity Belt' is clearly a modern composition too, but we’ve never been able to trace it to a source."

C Rastall

Light, airy, feet tapping with whispers of the Renaissance Era
A vertible treasure trove of musical instruments flow through the songs and melodies stirring the mind and senses. During sessions of reading Historical Fiction, Romances and Comedies, these compositions add Middle Ages ambiance firing the imagination. The book characters come alive with A Rosebud in June, Cruel Sister, Chastity Belt and True Thomas weaving their magic in the background. Great selections on this CD.
