Album Notes
From the long, hard running American interstate comes the latest incarnation of alt-country anti-hero Mark Browning. With disdain for the singer-songwriter stereotype and a spirit of collaboration, the collective 'OX', has become Browning's new voice for the deconstructed pop song and the anthem of the musically disenfranchised. The concept is plain, reflect the hardness of this land, the spirit of the folks living on it, and blow it out like diesel exhaust. After all, it's only rock & roll. The debut OX: DUST BOWL REVIVAL (to be released December, 2002) is a collection of studio weary fragments, fragile masterpieces, sonic accidents; a candid album in the truest sense. Recorded live to analog tape and spliced cassette demo recordings made across the mid-west, DUST BOWL REVIVAL is literally, a record of a record; a behind the scenes look at recording an album. Production, exposed; a musical affirmation that the air in the room is part of the song, that space is part of the song, that the musical scaffolds of count-ins and tube-amp hum are part of the song... that the song, is only a part of the song.

"Headlining Vancouver songman OX plies a sensitive but scuffed, delicate but twisted variant on the cracked alt-country thing. On the evidence of a forthcoming album, 'DUST BOWL REVIVAL' he is a significant talent." Ross

Phenomenal... clean and complex... soothing, mellow.
This album is the stuff of life boiled down and poured into chords and melodies... lyrically brilliant. Like flawless summer patio days, the breeze rustling freshly opened leaves - wonderous and sublime. Catching snowflakes on your tongue. An understated masterpiece. A new favorite bound to become an old favorite.

ox updates your album collection and more!
Unabashed tribute and homage, but clearly original, contemporary, and packed with surprises. Literally twice the album i was expecting, yet half as much would still have been a bargain. Transam, Stolen Bike and Stolen Car are great fun, instantly familiar, and well spaced between contrasts like the most genuine song on the disc, Weaving. After several listens, a remarkable note is in the detailing. The songs are not finished until they end. There are both subtle inflections and drastic changes that keep you interested and attentive to the close, but more importantly, let you know that the songs were given true attention and crafted all the way through. Why not give yourself credit too. On the back page of the cd insert with a fine point black pen, write your name in under background vocals because you will be participating regularily- and don't worry, you will sound great!

Summer soundtrack...makes me want to be home again.
I had the pleasure of playing with Mark and co on their recent uk tour, but not until i bought the album did I truly appreciate what's going on. Trans Am, Stolen Car absolute gems, they've really got it right. truly a summer soundtrack, for quaffing wine and sittin in the sun. Can't wait for the new album in Oct 06!!

Absolute Classic-Mark Browning... you rock
Stolen Bike, Transam..... fantastic Canadian music.... I love this album....
