ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Palayan is the name of Sequeira’s solo music avatar. The singer songwriter brings a variety
of influences to his solo work, punctuating deeply personal lyrics with impeccable musical
choices. Straddling elements of alternative rock, folk, fusion and electro pop, he creates
stunning soundscapes that feel fragile, vulnerable and unpredictable.

In his debut LP, Metanoia, the artist chronicles the end of a particularly painful relationship
and the period of growth that followed. From the initial sense of exhaustion, hurt and
confusion to the slow, painful process of putting oneself together again, Metanoia
soundtracks every part of this process with luscious and psychedelic music.

When Sequeira began writing, he let the songs dictate the form and format of their release.
He flirted with the idea of releasing an EP, before recognizing a pattern in his work. He
found that the songs he wrote reflected different stages in his shifting worldview. Eventually,
the track list organized itself into an LP consisting of four chapters, each signifying a key
phase of this process.

Though Sequeira calls Palayan an escape, his relationship with it is far from indulgent. It
was only after taking the appropriate steps towards recovery – engaging in serious self-
reflection and changing his lifestyle – that he began work on the album. “I knew I had to be
healthy to work on Palayan again” he says. It is perhaps due to this approach that the
album feels cathartic without much of the bitterness associated with break up songs.

This discipline manifests itself in other ways too. It is evident in the care put into writing,
recording and mixing the album, which was done in the UAE, India, USA and Britain.
Sequeira reached out and recruited the right artists - flutists, violinists, turntablists, singers
among many others - to help him execute his vision. The final result is a meticulously
constructed, deeply emotional album that shines with the best aspects of the genres and
musical traditions it is influenced by.
