ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"I've been producing and engineering records for 31 years.I've never worked with a more talented singer/songwriter.Pamela McNeill is an electrifying performer, an amazing singer, and an incredibly gifted songwriter."

Tom Tucker Sr., Producer/Engineer [Lucinda Williams, Prince, Soul Asylum]

Pamela McNeill is already being compared to a number of singer-songwriter greats: Stevie Nicks, Chrissie Hynde, Shelby Lynne, and Sheryl Crow, to name just a few.To be sure, growing up in small-town Minnesota afforded Pamela the opportunity to spend countless hours listening to records and absorbing all the nuance of her rock superheroes. And she's definitely fallen under the spell of their potent potions, adopting an ambitious songwriting approach that fuses delicately textured arrangements with exquisite vocal prowess.McNeill is both thrilled and flattered to be placed in such distinguished company.

But don't be misled by her blushing humility - Pamela McNeill's songs blindside you with grace and style all their own.Efforts to pin down any resemblance to icons are simply the easiest way of conveying that she embodies all the commanding grit and character, all the sweet fragility and wounded pride of the great songstresses who have come before her.Simply put, her voice is at once both brand new and instantly recognizable. And the melodies yank you in headlong.

Perhaps there's further reason for the familiarity - Pamela knows how you feel. On her latest LP, American Breakup, the Minneapolis-based singer/songwriter has taken all the pain of a failed relationship and turned it into an extraordinary gift.
A subtle concept album, Breakup's 12 songs tread the twists and turns of America's varied musical landscape, exploring different styles in an attempt to sort out the confusion and convolution that accompany one of life's biggest emotional train wrecks.

But don't be fooled - American Breakup is no variety show.Rather, it redefines current notions of pop music by bringing songwriting back to rock basics. And thanks to McNeill's sublime voice and deeply personal lyrics, the songs retain solidarity throughout.
With the help of a band comprised of some of the finest musicians in the Midwest, Breakup shimmers with modern, alt-rock sass, while remaining firmly grounded in the great traditions of American music.
By all rights, Pamela McNeill has created an album that could very well be hailed a pop-rock classic.

Pamela McNeill is no stranger to success.Having immersed herself in music from a young age (McNeill studied classical piano for 16 years), she had formed a rock band by her mid-teens and was, "touring every roadhouse in the upper-Midwest, from Winona [Minnesota] to Canada." Her first CD, 2 Sides to Every Sky, was a collaborative project with the United Way of America, undertaken as part of their year 2000 promotional campaign.

The album has already sold over 10,000 copies to date, and firmly established Pamela as one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to ever emerge from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Although McNeill donated 100% of the album's profits directly to the United Way, the experience has nonetheless enriched her in other ways, affording her the opportunity to have her music featured in video productions aired in over 25 U.S.cities. Additionally, Pamela and her band undertook a nation-wide tour, which included performances in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Milwaukee, Topeka, Bellingham [WA], and the Twin Cities.

According to Edwin Russell, former CEO of Duluth's ALLETE (a partner in the project), "Pamela's music has touched many, many lives [as witnessed] through the testimonials associated with the development of the videos, and the reception the CD has received across the country." With the release of American Breakup, Pamela McNeill once again demonstrates her ability to appeal to a wide audience base by capturing an extremely personal creative vision.

Yet one thing - Pamela's generosity - remains constant, as she invites us freely to accompany her on yet another journey through all the passion and purpose containable within a single human heart.

Who Could Ever Break Up With Pamela?
Great writing, incredible singing about a subject that has pained most everyone sometime in their lives. I think people like to compare singers to others therefore putting them into some sort of category. I think Pamela McNeill's music is incomparable. I can only imagine how it is to be able to sing like that.

Buy 2 CDs, you will wear out the 1st with continuous play!
The path from PASSION to LOVE to OBSESSION to BREAK UP to RECOVERY is marked lyrically and musically. Each song could stand alone, but string them together and I get a powerful sense of connection to a story we have all probably experienced. I catch myself singing the words, later, when the music has stopped. I LOVE these songs.

It's the story of a heart broken girl transforming into a strong woman.
It's like Pamela invites you into her heart to view the transformation of a heartbroken girl who's lost a love to a strong woman who find her own way and excels in life. Each song is like another chapter of a story in her life. Very personal, very touching. Everyone can relate to at least one song! Her voice is awesome and displays so much real emotion.

Songs of hope that touch the heart
This is a CD that I can listen to over and over again. The
combination of Pamela's words, music and voice really touched
my heart. The words in her songs are recognizable and give
hope and inspiration, especially for anyone who's either
going through, or has gone through a break up. I highly
recommend this CD as well as Pamela's first CD - Two Sides to
Every Sky which is also great!

Great CD, great music, great production!
I enjoy listening to this CD over and over again. I particularly like the first two songs. I think Pamela is a wonderful songwriter and her performance is nearly perfect. Dugan McNeill's production is first class and the band sounds fabulous.
