Album Notes
Patrick Allen is a guitarist/vocalist who has been part of the Minneapolis music scene since the mid-seventies. On his debut cd,"bout time!", he offers up 13 fresh original tunes that are steeped in a funk blues feel. Fans of artists like Tower of Power, Little Feat or Robben Ford would definitely find this to their liking. Several of the songs feature killer horn arrangements by Michael B. Nelson performed by his legendary section The Hornheads. Also featured is Hammond organ wizard Ricky Peterson plus a slew of Minneapolis' top notch players like drummers Bobby Vandell, Rob Stupka and Michael Velasquez, pianists Tom Hunter and Scott Miller, bassists Al Pettis and Scot Hornick and percussionist Estaire Godinez. There are also guest vocal appearances by Minneapolis icon Willie Walker as well as Kathleen Johnson and Lisa Wenger. The disc, of course, also highlights Allen's tasteful vocals and stellar guitar work.

...singer-songwriter Patrick Allen reflects a love of the jazzier side of the blues on ...'bout time! with a pure, clean guitar tone, warm B-3 and a tight-yet-easygoing rhythm approach...the Minneapolis cooker has a good voice and an interesting take on soloing...Blues Revue

...'bout time! is a very fine debut album...Allen shows that he is a fine singer-songwriter and the backing musicians offer excellent support throughout...anyone who likes their blues shot through with soul and funk will find much here to admire...'bout time! has given Patrick Allen a great start to his recording career and one that will take some beating!...Gordon Baxter - Blues On Stage

Yes Patrick it's "bout time!
This is definitely an all-star lineup of minneapolis musicians. But what really shines is how Patrick put all this together. Being a Minneapolis Producer too. I can appreciate the all the work that was put into this. Lets start with the Hornheads. Minneapolis' version of the Tower of Power. the are as tight as ever. -And probably the most influential drummer in Minneapolis, Bobby Vandell. He's nailing those horn hits with his snare, with ease. Bobby definitely set the standard for all the drummers in this town. That makes him so responsible for the Minneapolis sound. Not only that, he's a joy to work with! - Another person responsible for the minneapolis sound is Ricky Peterson. His work with everyone from David Sanborn to George Benson to Prince,Is Legendary. Now you gotta check him out on -Save it for some other Fool- His bluesy jazz solo totally compliments Pats guitar. Its a perfect fit. Ricky is another player who is not just incredibly talented, he is one of the nicest guys in the world. Just having these nice people playing on his project, is a testimony not only to Pats talent but also to his personality (way to go, Pat)- Now onward- There's no shuffle player in the midwest like drummer Rob Stupka. From his legendary work with the Butanes Soul Revue to the first Jonny Lang c.d.. is a blast to listen to and experience. - only when we're alone- testifies to that. Also check out George Benson percussionist Estaire Godinez. She always adds. No matter what recording she's on. - Of course the guest appearance of Willie Walker is very smooth and gritty at the same time. --- Minneapolis was ready for an ambitous blues project. One that has some very nice, almost, jazzy twists. Its fun to see someone with the talent, vision, and abundant songcraft to pull this off. And getting great players like bassist Al Pettis, Vocalist Lisa Wenger, And other notable musicians and singers from the Minneapolis area, doesn't hurt. -But Lets not overlook Pats smooth vocals, and technical but soulful guitar playing. His bluesy bends and Volume pedal work is right on. (With a slight touch of Jazz). Its just enough to keep you wrapped around his songwriting abilities, which is a very strong suit for him. There's always something new coming around the corner. If your a musician you'll love this c.d. or if your just a listener. You'll love this just as much. In the land of Ventura, Pawlenty, the Vikings, bus strikes, and 35 below windchill. Just buy this c.d., sit back, relax, and enjoy. It'll get your toes tappin' and keep you warm.--- THIS IS ONE C.D. YOU HAVE TO GET! -- Mark Arneson, Trimark Productions Inc., Minneapolis Minnesota.

I loved every song on this CD, and that is a great accomplishment!! The songs spoke right to my heart. The music was excellent. I hope there are more of his CD's to come as he has been blessed with a wonderful talent!

Patrick Allen 'bout time'
Good music. Recording of drums is lacking in dynamics. Bass is weak on this recording and vocals/lead guitar are too highly prominent in the mix. Good musicians and good tight playing.

Incredible CD, A must have for any collection!
It is incredibly rare to find a CD that you can truly enjoy each and every song on. But this is definately one of them. This group really needs to get recognition for the true talent that can be heard here. This is by far some of the best sounding work our ears have had the pleasure of listening to in a long time. We will certainly be looking for more material from these guys. You will not go wrong with this purchase. Where have they been hiding? Absolutely Wonderful, cannot say enough. This is Awesome!

performed with flawless musicianship
Honestly...the music is entertaining, energetic and performed with flawless musicianship, I look forward to bringing this disc out of my collection often over the years to come. It is a thrill to discover real talent that is not sony created and promoted. In a sea of corporate suck bands you are a jewel to be treasured, keep it up.
