ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is a premiere recording of three piano sonatas from Giovanni Anotnio Matielli's Opus 1. Matielli was a contemporary of Haydn and Mozart in Austria. His music is rarely heard in public today, but during the Classical era he was a well-respected music pedagogue in Vienna. In fact, the composer Gluck was known to have enjoyed his keyboard compositions greatly. This album was recorded upon three different period-appropriate square pianos built in London by John Broadwood, Longman & Clementi and Co., and Chistopher Ganer. Patrick Hawkins, an avid performer upon early keyboard instruments, has performed throughout the US and Europe and has recorded for Navona and Arkay Records.
